hi. So, I love to write, so I looked up different types of disorders, for a certain character in a story. I found one called hallucinogen persisting perception disorder (HPPD), and after reading about it, I fear I have it. Some symptoms include (I'm only writing the ones I have), "auras" sorrounding objects, trails behind moving things, air assuming a grainy or textured quality (visual static), and yeah, that's about it. Yep. According to Wikipedia, I have a minor case of it. Am I mentally ill, without realizing it before?

I've always been a little different from all the other kids, personality wise. Is this just puberty playing tricks on me...or?

Also, my friend seems to have it, too. She hears her grandpa's voice in her head, that started after he passed away, and she sees vibrant auras, unlike the subtle white mist I see on occasion. Please help?

What hallucinogen had you taken before, and are you taking any medication/drugs right now?

I experience all of these 'symptoms' mildly, save for the colored trail behind moving things that only happened with an antidepressant. (I had also had a hallucinogenic experience on buspar, another story) Having these experiences mildly is pretty normal, or at least completely benign. Staring at people and seeing auras or staring at objects, lights or pictures for a duration of time before moving your eyes and experiencing some sort of imprint is common. In a dark room, or when we close our eyes, for many of us our brains start to hallucinate flashes of colors and even shapes. As for the static, I don't hear about it much but I also see it and I'm sure it's just as natural.

Unless these are significantly impairing your vision, I wouldn't worry about it or say that you are mentally ill. What goes on in your brain that you are unaware of is incredible, and sometimes it just kind of 'leaks out' in our vision.

Thank you! The weird thing is, which I forgot to read on Wikipedia (oops...) is that it is caused by medications or drugs. The thing is, I've had it since, well, as long as I can remember, and I have hardly ever taken anything, excepting influenza over-the-counter drugs and doctor's shots during check ups.
It doesn't really disturb me...by static, I mean there's fizzy dots in my vision. I don't know what it is, exactly, maybe not hallucinogenic, but...it just sounded like it.
