Just remember that we do not always know who we are talking to on the internet. People can say they are one thing when actually they are something completely different. Thankfully Psych Central is a safe place. We have a good moderation team to keep us safe.

But it is always good to be mindful and keep ourselves safe. Do NOT hand out personal information about yourself. We all have a username here, keep it at that. Unless you have met other people in person, or know for certain someone else is safe do not hand out your email address.

This is just a reminder, the internet is a fantastic place but sadly, also can be open to abuse.

Kind regards, Pegs

I would add that Psychcentral is not somehow magically safe. People can and do tell untruths on this website just like they do on any other, whether because of their illnesses or through malice. Therefore it is wise to use caution on this website just like any other.

What do you expect for people who actually develop a real online friendship? I'm not talking about meeting up, but the rules basically prevent you from exchanging email addresses or speak to members on messenger. It sort of of keeps everyone on a shallow level with each other.

alot of people will lie about what is happening to them, so beaware of what they say, if it sounds out there, or the questions and answers don't match, its time to say good bye.

by the way it hurts when people lie to you to like that, u take a interest in them, u feel there hurt, and bam your slap in the face, played like a fool. Some people are takers in our illness and some people are givers to get through it. When u put yourself out there its scary because u never know the outcome.

I disagree with this.
As, we're on a site for mental health. A lot of people here probably struggle with their disorders and sometimes their disorders may cause them to have "out there" thoughts, or say something "out there" or say one thing but mean something else.
A lot of people say crazy things here, but it's better to treat them as though they are serious in what's going on rather than jump to the conclusion that they are lying.

But that's just my opinion.

Very true and thanks for emphasizing! The internet can be a dangerous place, but safe if you take the proper precautions.
