 I just found out--I've been approved for Social Security Disability!!! The first time!!! No hassles! I CAN'T FRICKIN' BELIEVE IT!!!! DJ

Actually, I DO get a big, whopping check...they've got my disability listed from last November, the last time I worked! AND I DON'T HAVE TO GIVE ANY TO A LAWYER!!!!! And YES, I am a loon...and proud of it!!!

Ok! Ok! That's six months. Not shabby if you get $826 like I do! LOL But pssst! I got THREE YEARS worth!
 I fired my lawyer 2 weeks before the hearing, so I didn't give mine away to "his uselessness" either! LOLI'm happy for you, DJ!! Really! I am!

Congrats DJ,
It's great they were willing to realize your need on the first try. I was lucky also.....It was about 11 years ago for me & they hardly ever gave it out on the first time then. I had been in & out of the hospital so many times by that point, it was quite obvious I guess. At the time, I also had a workmans comp case going which I ended up loosing in the long run. I still can't believe I lost the workmans comp case. All I wanted was to get a position back in the technical area of the engineering. There was a position open that I fit in but the arrogant jerk that was my director wanted to own me & wouldn't let me go to a job I could be good at. They had even been complaining that I wasn't doing a good job....duh....it wasn't something I knew how to do & all I did was BS my way through it until they thought I knew what I was talking about. I knew how to put together all the buzz words but didn't know anything about what I was saying. The judge felt that they were justified in not giving me the technical job & that it shouldn't have made me as ill as it did. All the hospitalizations & pdoc reports didn't help me wil the workman's comp case, but at least it got me the disability on the first try. Justice did come to the director.....he died of a heart attack at work....it couldn't have happened to a more deserving person. My husband on the other hand tried to get disability & they denied him on the first try. I told him that that was usual for them to do.......usually they deny it on the first & second & third. They usually give in by then, thinking that if you are that serious about it, you must be disabled. My husband threw up his hands & said that he didn't think he was actually disabled because they said he wasn't. What a sucker he was.......now that he has been Dx'ed with adult ADD, he's going to try again. Hope he has the some good luck this time....I'm not going to let him give up this time. I am very happy for you.....I bet you can give a huge sigh or relief now....it is great to know that you have some monthly money coming in. It's not much, but since you paid into it all our working life, you deserve to get your money back too. YEEEE-HAAAWWWWWW!!!!!!

Hey, I'm so happy for you! If I was there with you now, I'd give you a big hug and jump up and down and sing tears of joy with you.
I have a soft spot in my heart for all whom need to fight for disability compensation. It seems you must expose all your weaknesses, document everything, and bear your soul to apply for disability. I'm glad your needs were heard. I'm glad you'll have a little more help. Disability, with a severe employment handicap, isn't the end of your working days if you choose it not to be. There's voc rehab, volunteering, and/or many hobbies. Do you have a hobby you want to pursue? |

While I'm sure that there are many people who deserve disability payments more than I that are turned down the first time for whatever reason, I think it would be pretty clear to someone who saw my medical records, earning records, work records and made a few phone calls that I've been going downhill job-wise for a long time. I did try to make sure that they got ALL med recs regarding mental health treatment, even the first ones for depression 10 years ago.
I have also applied for VocRehab here (I was approved in my former state), so I may go back to school. I was a working musician for may years...I've been practicing, and I'm gonna be out looking for a gig or two soon. I also started taking up woodworking before my old life ended, so I'll be able to pursue that a bit too! As always, thanks for all the good thoughts from you all...you really have helped me keep going the last year. DJ
