My name is Margaret and I am here to take care of Dee Dee. I am the person who has made sure she has lived through all her traumas since age 5. Its very hard for her to ask for help. Her rejection at the hospital yesterday has forced me to be here. I will make sure that her children are tended to, and that she gets her proper rest, food, and takes her medicine as prescribed. I just wanted to let all of you know that I will help her until I am no longer needed.

Margarete,

I posted to DeeDee that she shouldn't look at it as a rejection by the hospital. The problem is that there are usually specific requirements for being put into the "closed unit" & it seems that she wasn't fitting those requirements....it wasn't that she was being rejected.

I suggested that she talk to her Dr & try to get him to set it up so that she does fit the requirements initially to be admitten into the unit that she will feel comfortable in. It is something that her Dr can do & then as she feels more comfortable he can determine with her the right time to move her to the other unit.

Unfortunately, hospitals are run by rules & specific things that determine needs & that isn't based on what a patient feels. If you can help her through the process of getting back to her Dr & communicating the right information to him.....I am sure that she will be able to be hospitalized in the unit where she feels safe.

It sure sounds like she needs to be in the hospital & in the unit where she feels safe. With the right paperwork, her Dr can have her admitted to the unit she feels safe in. Hopefully with your help to lead her through the process, she can get the help she needs.

It is really sad when the red tape rules get in the way of the help that a person really needs. Hopefully this will all work out.....it is just a matter of knowing what to say to the right person. Like I said in my other post, the closed units are usually reserved for people who are suicidal or homicidal. (people who are a danger to themselves or to others).

Hope you can help her through this situation & give her some helpful direction,
Debbie
