Hi, I introduced myself here I little while back and have really posted since. The reason I am publicly posting now is because for the next six months of my life something dramatic is going to change.

As I may have told you I came here to the States to study in Community College. My parents decided to thrown me in to live with my brother. He has been verbally abusive to me over the course of period that we have lived together and had the tendency to get physical at times.

Because there is not the possibility that I can move in with anyone else being that I do not know anyone here, I decided to go back home. To do this I had to inform my parents who after a long discussion with my both me and my brother, have decided what would happen when I arrived home.

You see, my parents always have favored my brother and this has let him get away with a lot. In this instance, they decided that I was crazy (as in loony) for accusing my brother of such things and so upon immediacy of arriving in Hong Kong (that's where I'm from), I will be put into a mental institution. They have repeatedly informed me that 'they are not joking'.

So that's the story, for a minimum of half a year I will be living inside of a psych ward. My brother told me that whilst inside I probably want to kill myself (with a hint of a grin). Just wanted to let you know.

Thanks for being an audience, I appreciate you all.

Unless your accademic visa to be in this country as a student has expiered technicaly you don't HAVE to go back to Hong Kong. Talk with your friends from college, the college dorm people and maybe you can instead of living with your brother live in a college dorm. There are many out of country but in this country as students living in college dorms getting funded by financial aid grants and schollorships. This country also has churches, missions, crisis centers, and shelters that help and give "sanctuary" to people from other countries that are here to attend school and colleges.

Can your parents put you in an institution without a court order? Here (U.S.) you would have to go through a court proceeding to determine whether you are really in need of involuntary commitment. Terrible situation.--Suzy

(((((((((((((((((k gafoor)))))))))))))))))) I am so sorry you find yourself in this position,. Is there some kind of advocate system when you get home? I hope something changes prior to you getting home.

I would definitely not go home it that is what you are going home to. From what you have told me in your PM, there is absolutely no excuse for your patents to put you into an institution.

I think I would weigh my options & my choice of trying to find a place to go to here in San Diego would be where I would go. If they can't find you, your family can't do anything to you. I am not familiar with what kind of help there is for people who aren't US citizens, but I think your school advisors would be definitely able to help you in the situation you are it.

I know it isn't normally right to go against parents, but when they aren't going to do what is best for you, you need to find help for yourself at this point. Don't give up the fight...you don't deserve to be treated the way you have been treated.

I hope you can find some help so you can escape the situation you are in.

i think, you might find refuge in canada, i am sure you have some solid grounds for refuge based on the fact that you might enter an institution against your will up return to Hong Kong,
