Hi.

Has anyone been to a neuro psychiatrist? I wonder what the difference is? I told the social worker from the neurology office that I wanted to see their's as my pdoc basically is useless. She was going to try & get me a referral.

thanks.

I haven't been to one, my pdoc works in a neurology office, so is sensitive to my own neurological illness.

The difference between a pdoc and and neuropdoc is in the types of training.

Hope you find someone that is right for you

Both psychiatrist and neuropsychiatrists (behavioral neurologists) both start with medical school. Psychiatrists focus on psychiatric disorders, most of which have no identified brain cause; neuropsychiatrists get additional training in neurology and focus on disorders that may have a defined brain problem such as a stroke that is causing or contributing the behavioral difficulties
Thanks for this!

My pdoc is trained in both psychiatry and neurology though his practice is psychiatric. He is highly knowledgeable on both though which has been quite helpful with my husband who has both psychiatric and serious neurological illnesses that interplay.
