It seems to be a law of nature, inflexible and inexorable, that those who will not risk cannot win.

You got THAT right!
One of the things that makes me the saddest is that I no longer have the clear vision that makes risk daring rather than foolish. It hurts that I cannot seem to organize my thoughts well enough to get from here to there. And so, rather than playing to win, I sit on the sidelines, watching the game. My own special hell. Thinking back, I can't say that I've ever organized my thoughts. It's been more of a gut feeling. Maybe that's the difference between male and female, you think? I don't know any more.
If at first I don't succeed, then I blame myself. That's when I stop to think, "I was foolish or stupid." Better yet "I KNOW I'm right! Why can't THEY see it??" That's a real ![]() When I DO succeed, though, I say "SEE?? I told you so!!" I'd like to think there have been more of these times but right now I'm not sure if I'm fooling myself or not. When I sit on the sidelines and watch rather than join, it's a whole 'nuther hell!! I know from whence you speak!

hmmm. I had to give up the idea of winning (and losing) a while back... didn't do anything for me to look at things that way.
I do understand the idea though, yeah... it helps to take a risk now and then to test your wings ![]()

What really kills me is the afterwards...the..."what would've happened?!" I can't stadn it, but, it seems risk are part of my nature and my disease, I don't know how far from them I can keep myself ...

Biplol, that's called second guessing yourself.
![]() The risk I've just taken resently isn't working out as well as I had hoped, but instead of wishing I hadn't done it, I'm looking at things I can change in the plans that I had made. If I hadn't taken this small risk, I'd still be beating myself up saying "I should have tried!" Or, "I'll bet it would have worked!" But I would have never learned whatever lesson I'll be learning through this. I don't think you can keep yourself away from EVERY risk. Even getting up in the morning involves SOME risk! LOL

ONLY A PERSON WHO RISKS IS FREE
To laugh is to risk appearing the fool. To weep is to risk appearing sentimental. To reach for another is to risk involvement. To expose your feelings is to risk exposing your true self. To place your ideas, your dreams before a crowd is to risk their loss. To love is to risk not being loved in return. To live is to risk dying. To believe is to risk despair. To try is to risk failure. But risks must be taken, because the greatest hazard in life is to risk nothing. The person who risks nothing, has nothing, is nothing. They may avoid suffering and sorrow, but they cannot learn, feel, change, grow, love, live. Chained by their attitudes they are slaves; they have forfeited their freedom. Only a person who risks is free. - Hugo Prather |
