Hey people!

For anyone that is an HSP or has an HSP as friend, this is an introductory guide.
As I am an HSP myself I find this guide usefull. So here's the link to the guide!

I've often wondered whether I'd be classified as a HSP because of characteristics/behaviours of myself that have turned up HSP as a Google result before. Regardless, I've always disliked the criteria used for identifying HSPs, as they're usually self-affirming, (typically) positive characteristics like "Do you care about others?", "Are you sensitive?" and "Are you a very open and inquisitive person?"

If there's one thing that we've learned from response bias, social desirability bias, illusory superiority and the Dunning-Kruger effect, it's that people can rarely (if ever) be trusted to answer subjective questions truthfully. If you asked a group of people, for example, "Are you a nice person?", who would honestly answer "Nope, I'm highly conceited and care only for myself", even if that were the truth?

The point is that while I like the idea of HSPs, the number of people who would classify themselves as such would be quite largely amplified vs the number of people who actually are HSPs. Consequently, I leave myself out of the running, lest I merely claim I am, or my responses end up being self-affirming. Nice resource though, Kudos.

i don't know what the 'charactoristics' are for HSP, but i'm sure i'd fit them... i've long identified myself as being : hypervigilent, hypersensitive, and hypercritical. some of that is lessening as i continue to meditate, but i still think of myself that way~

thanks for the post~

For Highly sensitive people or friends of them

Myself and my best friend are both HSP's and we are mindful when we meet up to learn ways to keep ourselves calm and not overwhelmed. We usually prefer to sit quietly with candles on.

I agree without wholeheartedly. I just found a great person on the internet
who was enlightening people on youtube about Gaslighting. But then something happened,he seemed to become very attractive and provoctative.Emmersing
into sensitive waters about memories and things that affected his life a longtime ago or even recently. He seemed to have a heart of gold and was physically a beautiful and creative person. But,he helped people and seemed successful at it.
But I then I noted his gorgeoues body and goodlooks of which he seemed to be unaware of at first. Then it seemed to be an expression of his nationality which native american. Why this was so suddenly very provoctive? Was he aware? I left the site, because I was allowed to send him an email of my past hurts and how it made today. It was just sort a raging river of emotion. So,then other females, and grown sexy women mind you..logged on,so I really left.Social sits have a way of creating envy.It is a fact.
Not a good subject for me. The quiet way is better.

My doctor talked to me years ago about this. I'm very glad you posted this info. Thanks so much. I don't think people realize what it is like at all. I can describe my bipolar so much easier, but I know this is real because I endure it every moment of every day. It never goes away.
Thanks for this!

I am an HSP but not quite to the extent I thought I was. Some components of it I strongly identify with and always have, others less so.
Thanks for this!
