My ds has 2 adorable gerbils. Somehow, one or both have escaped from the cage. I just noticed one of them is on a --gasp! -- a glue trap that I have put out 3 days ago to catch those creepy crawly bugs and centipedes.
I am so distraught, that gerbil is on the glue trap, my heart aches, I wish I could safely remove it. I am in such agony, seeing it struggling on the trap. I feel bad to kill it, and I feel bad to see it struggling. Ohmygod, I don't know what to do!
I can't go about my day watching it struggling on the trap. Any ideas, please.....

Please call a vet! Someone at the vets office should be able to tell you how to safely remove it. Please don't kill it, I'm sure there is an answer for you.

Hurry,
Linda

put a small amount of cooking or baby oil onto the places where the mouse is stuck and gently work it into the glue with a Q-tip.

Do this very quickly or he will die of cardiac arrest.

Get rid of your other glue traps. Its really inhumane.

Yeah, don't get panicked, just try to figure it out, possibly call the company that makes the traps and ask them if they know of anything that breaks up and softens the glue.

I use those glue traps every year, to catch the mice that sneak into our house with the first cold spell.(I can't bear to use a spring-type mouse trap- Pet Help Needed ) Then I drive out in the country, with the mouse stuck on the glue trap sitting at the bottom of an empty bucket.
Like "gemstone" suggested-- I use a little vegetable oil by the mouse's feet--- and viola!!--- the mouse runs off the trap and scurries across the open land in search of a bush to hide under and then to hopefully dig a hole there and have a new home. Pet Help Needed

I hope you got your sister's pet freed.

Thank you all for your advice. Before posting I was picturing a burial...and now I am so pleased to say the gerbil is alive and well. DS (dear son) came home from school, I told him about the oil, he followed your instructions and voila, the gerbil is happily romping about! I am so excited!
