Hello everybody, and thanks!

I just started dating a nice lady, but last night, we went to an Oscar party, and I went to the men's room for a while (long line!).

When I returned, she was sitting on the edge of a couch, doubled over, shaking and rocking back and forth. It was a very disturbing scenario.

She says she has no memory of this.

Is this something I should be concerned about?

Thanks again.

It would be pretty hard to tell you what was going on with your date on this little bit of info. Also, we can't diagnose anyone here as we are all just peers in the realm of mental illness/disorders and relationship issues. We are not professionals.

I would say you would probably have to get to know her better and decide for yourself if she has any issues with mental illness or disorders. Maybe this is a good time for you to start a conversation with her about what happened and ask her if she's had other times when that has happened or if she is diagnosed with any kind of illness or disorder. From there, you can make your decision whether or not to continue seeing her.

i am not really sure.but seems as having a major panic attack?? has she ever had these?and there is always a first time.i have had them so bad.that i dont remember them.my family had to tell me what i did.so..not cool..i have panic/anxiety for so very long.and only a couple that i didnt remember.but with this being said.i know that sometimes u may not remember at least one or two.i dont know if this helps.and yes i think you should be concerned.because you dont know what it is now.Have you talked to her about this?I mean really talked? i dont want to scare u away. but untill you can kinda know what is wrong.be careful and safe.this may sound stupid to others.and i dont care.you never know what others went through.or what they are really like now, because of some of those things.maybe one harmless incident. But?? can you see if she would like to join this site? if she says yes.then.ther you go.she may need some help.and just waiting for someone to notice and speak up for her.be happy to talk to her.if she wants.dont know if i can help.but i will try.pamj533

if you were here in NY this could be just about anything.....

too much to drink, drugs, anxiety, hunger pains, the flu, IBS, heck this can be so many thing and can be nothing at all. I know someone who would go to parties and it was their normal behavior to rock, double over, shake and so forth and for him it was completely normal. I also know someone who when in social situations will act out just for the attention, I know someone else who just "rocked out" "peace out dude" just enjoying the moment. I also know some highly religious people who call this kind of thing "being called" taking a vacation with their higher power"...

my point is only this person and their own treatment providers can say what this is with in her. here at psych central we are not allowed to make a diagnosis of other peoples problems and symptoms. we can give you a general idea of what you would find if you googled these symptoms which is basically anything and everything in and out of this world.

my suggestion its her problem let her deal with it rather then you trying to diagnose and treat her, you could do more harm then good even putting her life at risk by trying to diagnose her symptoms.

Well, it's true it could have been a lot of different things... panic attack, seizure, diabetes low, gas, dissociative disorder, etc.

There's no way of knowing until she opens up about it or you see enough symptoms for yourself.

Was there anyone in the room with her that you could ask when/how it started? Maybe something "triggered" her? Either way, I would be concerned about her. I hope she is okay. Be kind to her and yourself.

I'm no doctor, but if anyone has a scary episode like that and can't remember it, I would recommend seeking medical attention.

To me, it sounds like a mild seizure.
