Well, I finally received my EMT license last week. Instead of congratulating me and saying how proud she was, my mother just talks about getting hers. She doesn't even want to use it to get an EMT job, just mission purposes or whatever. She doesn't like gross stuff. But for whatever reason she's jealous of me. I went to my parents' house today to see my dad because his birthday was today, and my sister's birthday was yesterday. I had brought my EMT card and certificate to show my dad. I was about to leave and I had the envelope with the card and certificate in it in my hand then my mom says "Is that your crap?" Really? That's crap to you?? I just left because it made me so mad. I can never do anything to make her happy. I am done trying to make her happy.

I don't know what kind of responses I'm trying to get from this, I'm kinda venting. I'm so angry right now.

I know just what you mean. I used to be the classic over achiever until my symptoms became more and more harder to ignore. I rarely than rarely (if that makes sense) got any praise for my achievements despite graduating top of my class. I stopped mentioning my accomplishments a long time ago.

My dad practically ignored my existence. All I ever got from my mother at the time was "you need to try harder"; didn't matter that my grades were more than good enough FOR ME. What I have learned - and you will too - is that it doesn't matter whether you have her approval or not.

Don't let her short comings and insecurities get in the way of your happiness or how much you value yourself. You are rght: she is jealous. Maybe you don't see it now but she is masking those insecurities by living vicariously through you and making those types of comments.

The progress youade is yours alone. It is your name on that certificate. It is you who went and put those hours in to get it. Don't listen to anyone who tries to make you believe that doing this for you wasn't good enough. It's understandable that you're unhappy, and your feelings aren't wrong. Just know that getting your license is an amazing achievement and so are you.

Welcome to the psych bi tch from hell mothers club. I never thought my mother could go any lower but she managed. She has blocked my inheritance so I can't take the money I need to go to an excellent psych hospital which is what my father would desire I do with the money he gifted me.
She is so evil she would rather I go to a state institution, or get no help at at all rather than pretend to care and be a mother. This is just her latest display of "motherly love". I am so angry! My ex inlaws had to rescue me in a town 5hrs away because I was in serious crisis. Do you think she has called to find out how I am or to thank these people who rescued me out of friendship and not family responsibility?

I'm sorry that you happened this...but don't think to what other people say (also if it's surly difficult, because she is your mother), do things for yourself. You have been great to get your license, congratulations! Enjoy your success and don't let this bad moment ruin it.

Congrats on getting your EMT license! Happy Birthday to you Dad and Sister! I'm sorry your mom is such a kill joy, but don't let her crappy attitude steal your joy in what you accomplish.

Congrat's on getting your EMT licesnse! That is something I would like to pursue sometime, just not sure if they would let me with Schizoaffective and being involuntarily commited once for 72hrs. But none the less, congrats!!

Congratulations for getting your license! I am so glad there are people who are smart and caring enough to take on this work. I believe you have answered your own quandary: "she's jealous of me" -- I pity your mom not having enough love of herself that she cannot love you for the wonderful individual you are.
