I dont know why this issue is so bad for me. I think i had it even when i wasn't on any meds, so it may not be that. I read diet could cause it from alternative health views, then i got really worried. I think depression too but that seems too obvious.

I have heavy brain fog in the mornings. It takes at least an hour before I can think. For me it may be caused by depression. Also, I have long suspected I have a sleep disorder.

One of the first suspects when you have brain fog upon waking is sleep apnea which is when you stop breathing while sleeping. This can occur from once or twice a night to many times in an hour. Sleep apnea deprives your brain of oxygen for all those periods you stop breathing, which can cause brain fog among other things.

Sleep apnea can be made much worse by medications especially sleeping pills or any others that depress the CNS (central nervous system).

Sleep apnea is easily tested for, usually in your home with an overnight test.

If this sounds like you at all please be tested.
I live in Canada though so I have no idea about insurance or costs.

I have brain fog that is quite severe. I attribute it to anxiety, depression, and mostly to medication side effects. Brain fog keeps me from socializing as much as I would like to.

It takes me an hour to begin to function in the morning as well... and I do probably have sleep apnea but nothing can be done for that for me... I also have allergies and chronic pain that don't let me sleep well... or think well at times...

Try to keep track of the issues and see if you can nail it down.

I used to have a lot of brain fog particularly in the mornings & it turned out the cause was anxiety. I wasn't sleeping full nights either so that didn't help either I'm sure.

I didn't even really know I was suffering anxiety problems at that time, it wasn't until it got up until the point I was diagnosed with GAD that I knew. Strange how one can be oblivious of mental health problems sometimes.

I've since been on an SSRI, come off it & now no longer have issues with brain fog. That's what makes me so sure anxiety was the cause.
