I have periods where I am horribly irritable around people. It got to the stage once where I was pulling my own hair out at the stress my dad speaking was causing me. I was like that around everyone for about a month. People could see how angry I was, they could see that I was angry at the time and asked me what was up, and I couldn't explain it. The emotions were so intense it hurt. And looking back I feel horrible about it. What is wrong with me? Is this a symptom of BPD or something similar?

I was diag. with manic-depression (bipolar disorder) in my 40s. I have had times of extreme anger/irritability. Yes, to the point of pain. My father was diag. with rage "seizures" in his 70s. I'm on good meds now & that helps a lot. Can you see a pdoc?

Thanks for the reply. I'm going to tell the pdoc when I next see her. I've been keeping a log of things I want to bring up when I next visit her and have added this to it. I've never heard of rage 'seizures', but my Grandad is seventy-odd and he has something which fits that description. I hope I don't have them. I'd hate to be a nasty person.

Definitely talk with your p-doc. Extreme irritability can be symptomatic of an anxiety disorder, depression, bipolar disorder, etc. I used to experience extreme irritability that would sometimes become rage. Meds helped a lot, so does stopping and taking a time out breathe and meditate for even 5 minutes.
