I cant afford mental health care but i know i need it. To start off where can i get help and what do i have how do you know what you have? I lie alot to get what i want or get what i want people to do or think. im very deceiving also i like to watch dexter and real crime shows and read about past serial killers. I often read and watch shows thinking well thats how you got caught i wouldnt of done that. I also have thought about being dexter he kills people who have murdered of committed a crime so bad that he kills them and doesnt get caught. I never act on this impulse but i fear maybe as i get older i might not beable to control this urge. I have even wanted to do a study to scan my head and see if it matches up with serial killers in our past.

Hello, dmorgan, and welcome to Psych Central! Do you have money to go to see your primary care (regular) doctor? I would say that you are having some weird trouble (hurting?) in your head to get you in there or something like that. And when you are there, tell the doctor what you told us.

There are clinics where people pay based on what they can pay. I think the doctor will recommend some psychological help for you. Do you feel like you could be a danger to others? You will likely be asked that.

I am glad you are seeing that you do need to see what's happening with you.

I hope you will be able to get some help soon.

welcome....

I too live in Wisconsin and I can tell you for FACT that your community offers FREE mental health services (you will wait - but you can get help). Call your county health services.

The help is there. It takes phone calls, even going to clinics in person...being very assertive and proactive, but you can get the help you need free or very low-cost. Good luck. you can do it!

The good thing here, dmorgan, is you recognize you have a problem &, at least it sounds like you're willing to do something about it. That's at least half the battle! I read through the other replies to your post. You've received some positive suggestions. So please follow through & pursue the mental health services you need. Also, keep posting here on PC. Good luck to you!

Hello dmorgan and a big WELCOME to PC and all it has to offer. I agree with what others have said, the biggest thing about your situation is that you recgonise you do have a problem. Yes, I'd say def pursue finding help with a professional mental health worker, you have as much need as the next person to receive help. You really do need to speak to someone and tell them exactly what you've told us. They will be better placed to help you if they know the whole situation, so don't hold back. You won't be alone with this type of thinking, even if you feel you are. Do keep coming back and sharing. HUGS. XXXXXXXXXXXXX

Dmorgan as in Dexter Morgan? I am like u. I watch all those shows and read the books. They capture my attention. My T knows of my fantasies yet I tell her a little at a time. Some call it cowardice or lying by omission I call testing the waters and protecting myself. For a I am I could be very bad but I reached out for help to prevent the bad. But don't get it twisted I hate the very idea of hospital. I have a very strong aversion and dislike of all hospitals. It is a final option and most likely will not be what I really want but have to do. U can find someone to help u. I'm as honest a I think I can be at te time and T thinks it's enough for now. I just show lack of motivation of doing what I really want. I've moved away from all those things that made it more real.

short version...it is now law in the USA to have health insurance/mental health insurance...if you cant afford private insurance you will need to go to your locations department of human services/department of social services and sign up for your states mental and medical insurance plans. you can also talk with your parents if you are in your 20's or under you may still be covered by their insurance plans.

where to go for mental health treatment...the USA has many different avenues for that....churches, clinics, county mental health, crisis agencies....

your medical doctor , school or college can also refer you to a treatment provider near you..

if you are under the age of 18 you will need to talk with your parents or guardian about getting treatment, they will have all the information about how to get you in to see your doctors or other treatment providers.
