are these zaps supposed to make your lips tingle / numbish?

started to read about diabetic seizures because of these sensations, any insights?
going to talk about it tomorow at therapist

I had them for about two months after I came off Paxil, but they were only in my head and nowhere else.
Thanks for this!

I had brain zaps coming off a med as well. Perhaps it's not diabetic stuff but any psych meds you might be taking. I would check with your pdoc and see if that is what may be causing. If not, maybe a doctor is in order?

Wish you the best in finding the issue and not having more brain zaps.

Did you just stop taking an antidepressant? "Brain Zaps" are not entirely uncommon when someone is discontinuing to take SSRI medication. It's called SSRI Discontinuation Syndrome and is linked to the changes in serotonin levels in the person's brain.

What you are describing sounds like withdrawal symptoms when someone abruptly comes off a medication that your body gets use to being on. I'm not a dr. but that is something that I have experienced before.

thanks for the replies, so far i've told my case manager and my therapist and neither of them knew what i was talking about or maybe pretended to not know?
i have been doing alot of reading too and i think it is discontinuation syndrome, i was on 150mg sertraline for 1 year and came off in 50mg intervals? over the course of 4 weeks i think, i was thinking its too fast but how long till the system repairs itself and starts creating/using these chemicals normally again?

wish i would have took note of the day i started the taper/ ceased the meds, now im not too sure how long its been but i think 6-10 days.. its been pretty nasty, just wanna hide in the closet till its over

: and i havent even started the zyprexa, i dont know if i even wanna touch that stuff anymore, i know after this experience i would really prefer not touching any ssris, snris, maois ever

Sorry to hear!! Thankfully I don't get SSRI cessation syndrome, since I taper off them rather slowly! I'd ck with a pharmacist...best of luck!!

I haven't experienced them, and I am not a medical professional, but I have read on-line that Dramamine helps.

This is common when quitting antidepressants

welp, im still experiencing brain zaps, shivers, parethesia, etc etc, sometimes its overwhelming and the zaps are just pulsating in a sense.. sometimes it feels like its getting better and then in the evening it comes back
clonazepam doesnt seem to relieve any of the sensation.. hope they can give me some good news/ help monday at next apt

and i dont think alcohol bothered me too much in the sense of making it worse or better, i think i was a little irritable because i kept getting "electrocuted" and felt depressed after because i couldnt enjoy myself; but other than that didnt really seem to have any effect..

i wonder, do SNRI's and MAOI's have the same discontinuation syndrome possibility?

could starting bupropion while coming off sertraline aggravate this? this is a horrible feeling... it just wont seem to leave me alone... some mornings it seems ok, then it comes back full blast in the evenings, i thought it was just because i was around people in the evenings more but i was alone and it still happened... is it killing me? it almost feels like my heart skips a beat

i checked my pupils and they seem dilated, not sure if thats significant.. also just started back on the buspar.. does buspar just zap some people? sighs

I've heard that if this is caused by going off meds, it can last for quite some time. I understand the desire to get off something as soon as possible, but do you really want this to continue when titrating down slowly might make you feel better and more successful at it?

no i dont want this to continue and i would titrate slower but im out of sertraline and i followed the drs orders on titrating but even slower and havent been able to get in touch with him or the nurse about it, Ive read that going on prozac and titrating slow from that could make it better... but what if they just want to put me on a different ssri? or even an snri? im already taking an ndri and dont really like the thought of taking more ssri's because of these feelings after stopping it.. its such a conundrum ; sometimes feels like you are trapped
plus i dont think the Dx is right so the meds they will want me to try probably wont do anything but make things worse... thats my main reason to be scared of taking new meds, i just want to feel better and not make it any worse than it has gotten

from what I know (and at times that isn't much) when weaning from a brain medicine and experiencing this, the doctor is weaning you off too quickly. Few doctors realize how slowly this needs to be done; don't accept it, tell the doc!

hey, thanks for the replies..
i've told all of them that i thought i was experiencing discontinuation syndrome but i dont think they knew anything about it.. i haven't tried Dramamine , is it the same as diphenhydramine? i could ask my dad to get some if its not too expensive, not really sure if the doctor is planning on doing anything about these symptoms or not.. haven't gotten an appointment to see him again yet, hoping that we can change the Dx and treatment entirely next time i see him :/ im getting headaches now too but i think its because i started the buspar again (because they want me to take it for anxiety blabla) but i dont think im gonna take it for long because it doesnt help the anxiety or anything and ends up giving me headaches - sometimes feels like just dont know what to do anymore :/

anyway happy holidays

I experienced my first brain zap last nite, woke me up from my sleep, it felt like a shock or poke in my head. I have been taking all my meds as scheduled so I guess they can happen even if your not stopping any meds.

When I was on topamax I had tingling all the time in my legs and feet. Once I stopped it the tingling went away.

Sent from the pickle jar using TapaTalk 4 pro.

I was put on abilify and couldn't handle it so i had to take myself. My doc got angry, but agreed with me after explaining what i felt like. then i just went back to my old regimin, and the headaches went away 5 days after. i forgot to say the headaches were from coming off the abilify. i suggest a doctor be in charge and keep working for you. i hope you can find a good doc too.

My brain zaps are soooo frequent 5 to 10 a minute. All day. Mild it's tiring. Anybody else experience this type of frequency?
