Hi There,
I live in the middle of nowhere and have for the last nine years. Prior to this, I lived in Los Angeles County. I am completely convinced that with my history, illnesses, and whatnot, I'd have been a very good candidate for the streets of L.A. (and almost got there) but now I'm a homeowner, successful student and have had some jobs (though I cannot work and go to school at the same time). I've spoken to a lot of people about the importance of environment for mental health and many people feel powerless to even consider making a change from say city living to something more rural. It's interesting to me because studies have shown that overcrowding is causing serious symptoms of mental illness, but it's almost as if those symptoms are so serious that they are causing a lot of people to feel stuck in their environments while their symptoms continue to skyrocket. I am just curious if anyone else has seen major improvement upon removing themselves from overcrowding/city life. I think it's hugely relevant to discussion of mental health and remain convinced that many people could see improvement with less activity surrounding them. Though, let me clarify, I am in no way advocating leaving medical facilities and docs behind.
