When I started with the VA two years ago, I had not idea what I was doing. I allowed an advocate to fill out my appeal and nothing in it was mentioned about the sexual assaults or the death threats. Tnere were other factors, like being promoted directly our of basic. And falling into a sudden depression during which I made two attempts. They said, and I am not making this up-that "I prbably contracted the bipolar during childhood and that gave me PTSD. And that I had been probably been assaulted several times in my teens. Some trick, with my hymen still intact at 18.

Now they have decided I'm not, nor ever have been bipolar. I simply have a case of ComplexPTSD. My quandry is this-th trauma doctor wants to put me back into DBT. It's unutterably boring and I've already taken it for three years. It seems to me, at this point, we need to be concentrating on the trauma that led to my discharge from the army.

How should I approach this? I will tell her this myself but she is one of those 'it's all about the trauma!' kind of doctors and I've got to get her out ou the distant past of my chikldhood and into the assualts that happened when I was 18. I can't mess this up and maybe I'm worried about nothing. But if you have any advice, I sure would appriciate it. Thanks, Lasy C.

Hello, Lady Courtesan. You have the right to participate in the formulation of the treatment plan. Please make sure your concerns are properly addressed. If the trauma doctor will not include your concerns, I would seek out the VA Patient Advocate: Patient Advocate - Veterans Health Administration

I wish you well.

Thank you glok. I am already good friends with the VA advocate there and she does anything she can to help the patients. But I had not thought of using her fior this, so thank you for your suggestion.

Lady~ Would you mind if I asked you a few questions about the VA system? I don't have advice because I don't know how they work but i'm curious.
