Hi all

As many of you may know, i had my first singing lesson a week ago, but didnt sing as i was very nervous and very shy. she set me a goal to be singing open mike nights around town within 6 months. we delayed my singing for a week until today. today was my follow-on session from last week...

we spent 45 mins doing breathing excercises, then my vocal coach asked me to sing "stand by me". so i did. as it was just the backing track, she offered to sing with me to help ease my nerves whihc was good. we began singing, all my nerves went and i fell completely into the song. i closed my eyes and sang. when the song ended she turned to me and said:

"wow simon, that was amazing! you sounded SO good, i am very impressed!!" she followed on to say how "i am one of the best students she has had for a while vocally!" and i "didnt hit a single bum note, i hit all the right notes!". she then said "how long did we set the goal for singing open mike nights?" so i answered 6 months, to which she excitedly said "oh, halve it. we can do it in 3, easy. EASY!!" she said how, at one point during the song, she was singing and so was i, and she turned to look at me, i turned to look at her, and she said she felt the emotion there and then, and she said "id love to sing that as a duet with you sometime!"

i cannot tell you how stunning that was to hear that. i wanted to scream so loud when she said that. i have been buzzing all day because of it, now its bedtime and i cant sleep because of the buzz! i am so releaved she said that as i have always thought myself to be rubbish. i still do. but a professional vocal tutor said such amazing things to me, i cant believe it!!

im on cloud nine for sure. what an immense feeling of pride i have with myself, and i feel 20 steps closer to my dream now!! WOOOOOHOOOO!!!

the first round at the bar is on me guys! i dont drink alcohol, and i know some of you dont, so go wild with whatever you are having, and have a toast with me!!

it seems such a huge step forward, which is daunting, but ultimately i know its so rewarding.

i am just so excited right now! and im sharing it with you all as you all helped me get to this stage im at. i nearly gave up on music and singing, but then you all here made me connect with my true self and realise that i cant give up, so i didnt and i get so much inspiration from you all. you are what keeps me going! so i want you all to feel even a fraction of what i feel, as you should all be proud of yourselves too. you are great guys!

shows there is hope for anyone, because if i can do it, everyone can! depression can be conquered, and i know i still get my bad days, but overall things are good. and i never thought that would happen a few years ago, 12 months ago even. i was ready to die, thats all i wanted, but not now. like i said, shows it is definately possible. we are ALL living proof of that.
