Hi everyone. Profanity Filter

I just wanted to make a reminder post to all (this is to no one particular member). I've noticed increased incidents of posts using a character or space to go around the profanity filter. Let's please not do that.

The profanity filter is in place at PC for all members and going around that may result in your post being edited without notice, or even pulled.

I think we all do great here at that...really I do. I also know that when under high emotion we can want to use words to get our points across, and express the extent of our pain, anger, etc. I think we can do that without going around the filter.

Thanks y'all for being you, and making PC the great place it is. Profanity Filter

KD

Well, it really hasn't been a huge issue here at PC to be honest, Jennie. It's not now either. I did feel the need to put a reminder out though.

However, when you think about it, a filter is in place for a reason and going around it is putting words here that might not be acceptible for the membership as a whole.

For instance and to be honest, I curse, and I do more than I'd like to admit. However, I try to be conscious of those within listening distance when doing it. Profanity Filter I guess the same would apply here in the sense that not all want to listen to my "words" at times. Profanity Filter

That's also true for me (about cursing) - I have to be careful about who I'm speaking to. I just try to keep to the "time and place" rule.

Same here ((((((((((Kimmy)))))))) I occasionally swear. I thought I was mistyping every time the words were not showing up so I admit I was one that was typing dashes becase it was the only way I could stop the mistyping. Mow I know LOL its not me spacing off and mistyping. its supposed to do that LOL thanks for the pm explaining what a profanity filter was. Profanity Filter glad you posted this thread otherwise I would have continued thinking I was mistyping.

KD,

I never realized that the profanity filter was even there until I was in chat & was trying to spell a dog breed. I was confussed when the funny symbols came up. I thought my fingers were on the wrong keys until I typed it several times & looked at the keys my fingers were on. That was when I put 2 & 2 together. Duh.....there are some words that are actually ok but the spelling has the same spelling that the filter recognizes. I knew I wasn't mispelling the word, the the starting letters were filtered out.......that was when I realized that there was a filter. I got a good laugh out of it however.

given all the givens I am now aware of, I think the filter is set much on the order of the FCC under Michael Powel. Ie: if they can't say it on the radio, we can't say it here. Anybody know if that's the case for real?

I didn't even know we had a filter. I know I use words that aren't swear words IRL, in place of naughty words. Not sure if I have posted anything like that here.

Profanity filter??????? I haven't heard of it, how does it work? I thought people used hyphens to be polite! Is it in the guidelines somewhere? If not, it should be beacause new members aren't always aware of this.

Hi, Tanya.

Use of profanity is mentioned in the terms of use and community guidelines here.

The profanity filter is just an extra bonus that alot of websites use. Profanity Filter If a member does type something that's inappropriate, the filter will automatically %($) it out.

Thanks!

Hi again, KD, this is really off topic, but we wonder if you can tell us if there is a FAQ or something about using the search function properly. We don't think we have it right. Can you send a link to instructions for it, or something ?

Sorry Profanity Filter Profanity Filter for those of us who are inexperienced with the website concept, for instance us, & we know there are other members like us, who have never used an interactive site before.

Sorry off topic, maybe we need a forum for this sort of question ? Profanity Filter The tech forum, should we use that for this kind of question ? Profanity Filter

That's a good question, zorah, and not off-topic so don't be sorry. Profanity Filter

There are really no instructions on "using" it because it's an automatic function within the software. It automatically picks up certain words and *%^&$*% them. Profanity Filter

Thanks for asking that!

I sometimes noticed when I cuss in here, which I do knowing it will be filter (which actually is cool for me), is that sometimes when you say some words with extended words attached, like B.S for example, the filter does not notice it and therefore is not filtered. Ooops, sorry this happened in some of my post, I think cursing should just be avoided at all costs, because that's the beauty of PC, and that's clean, respectful communication.

yep ((((((((((((( ww )))))))))))))))

that's where all online things aren't perfect 100%. however, saying my dog, or my spaniel works good too because it was the focus that the poor thing had an ear infection... I heard those are horrible for dogs to suffer. I remember that post actually, i think.

hoping you're well.
