This drives me crazy and makes me have tons of thoughts about anything and everything in my life ! Then I feel my brain is tricking me into believing stuff that is not true when I know what I want and what is actually true and about how I actually feel . So eventually I feel my mind has a mind of its own and I believe what is not the truth . This is really confusing for me . So depressed don't know what to do . Maybe I need to get out of the house or my room ?

Getting out might give you some new perspective and clarity. Feeling trapped if you don't ever go out makes sense, and I see that as a healthy feeling that could help you to be more motivated to try getting out. Yes, your mind can play tricks on you. If you take a breath, let your mind and thoughts and feelings calm down, and focus on what you know is true, you can reconnect with it and find the truth.

Hi, I don't leave my apartment either. For me it's a whole bunch of problems I have, benzo withdrawal, sz, anxiety, ocd, etc. Why is it you don't leave the house? Hugs.

I force myself to get out, even if to sit in the coffee shop down the street. Being around people, without having to converse, is helpful for me.

I got a doggie(s) to help get me out of the house, get me moving about, feel needed & especially for the unconditional love. It works like a charm. Petting the soft fur is nice too. Pets are very healing. That is just me. *big warm friendship hug*

It probably is, I know I feel trapped if I stay in my room or inside in general for too long. Things also start feeling really stagnant and it's like a gross feeling...so yes by all means you should try and get outside, even if its just to sit out there and get some fresh air.

Until recently I didn't feel trapped, I think it's a sign I'm getting better that I feel trapped. I first became extremely depressed then went into a mixed state I didn't want to leave and except for a monthly outing to dump garbage and pick up food I didn't leave. I felt safe at home, now after more than a year I'm starting to feel trapped and antsy.

Maybe it's a good sign when you feel trapped, it's natures way of saying you're ready? Perhaps that is a feeling you could embrace?

There is a mood tracking site called Optimism Online. It is one of the most used mood tracking sites for mood disorders. It has a list of positive things one can do to help the mood, and you check the boxes when you do those things. It is a Dutch site, but the English version is available.

So one of the good things is being outdoors.

Do not forget that solitary confinement is the worst kind of jail term. There must be a reason for it. And yes, it can be used as a form of torture, to break an inmate's spirit and make the inmate confess to the crimes he did not commit.

I only go out for doctors appointments, so I have basically been housebound for years now. I never feel trapped or bored or even lonely (I don't like people in general). So unless you judge me by my clothing, hygiene, how dirty my house is or how weird I am now, you would think I am completely "normal".

I sleep all day and on my computer all night, I don't remember what the Sun looks like. {vampire-like hiss}, sigh - really I have just given up on everything.

Don't end up like me - get out and about, make some friends, be amazed by nature, and let yourself enjoy life as much as you can, it is very short.

Personally I have a little schizoid personality so I could stay in my house and not leave and feel great. I don't need that social interaction.

But I can assume for most people getting out and interacting with others is probably really important.

Well this year at least I am like you Ripose - I have only been out of the house to go to doctors or hospital appointments, and only then if someone can take me there and bring me back. I have been like this before for a few weeks or a month at a time, but never for this long. It started with a long depressed period but now I am scared to go out, it is really difficult, I think I'm agoraphobic.

However in the last two weeks I have been out twice, it is very hard, I feel dizzy and terrified with all the noise and people (I live in the city) and I haven't gone very far. But I am going to keep trying as I am really scared I will end up staying inside forever. I am not very well physically, and I think unless I keep going out I may lose the ability to.

I have heard that one way to treat agoraphobia is to keep exposing yourself to what you fear, and to stay in that situation until the physical and mental effects of that fear lessen. So I will keep trying a bit at a time.

I find that the longer I stay in, the harder it is to get out. So if I can get out for even 2 minutes, it's better than nothing.
