Pay cabler is stepping up development of "The United States of Tara," a half-hour single-camera laffer from DreamWorks Television that's based on an original Steven Spielberg idea.
Show will revolve around an ordinary-seeming wife and mother of two teenage kids -- who also happens to suffer from dissociative identity (formerly multiple personality) disorder. Skein will explore how a dysfunctional family, including Tara's working-class husband, copes with her various personalities, which emerge when she's under stress. Pilot seg is expected to show off at least two of Tara's alter egos, a lascivious teen girl and a macho adult man. More personalities will emerge throughout the life of the series. Had enough problems with having DID - - not taken seriously, not believed or even asked to bring out another self to show off. There are and have been too many movies, TV movies, that did not help, but hindered people understand this problem. It's not funny!!!!!!! Also, how much of her disorder ( does she really have DID?) will be real or just staged to make a so called better show.

Hmm -
![]() ![]() I am not for sure how I feel about this - YET!...................... I think I will save my comments for a later time, for after the show airs and I have been able to watch it a few times. I say this for while it seems up front that this show may just very well be an attempt to make fun of a serious mental disorder - I have also learned that some mild comedy in a new show can help break the ice for the more serious side of the show.... the part that speaks of the struggle of any given subject. Example: the TV show Ugly Betty..... I never gave it a chance for I assumed it would be stupid, and yet many members here at PC says it is good and that they have learned from the show. |

Petunia, Thank you for the heads up!
I emailed the link to NAMI"s "Stigma Busters". They will let DreamWorks know that they are aware and will be keeping a watchful eye on this project. |

YAY for you, Danialla!
Could you perhaps give US the link to this place? If more people give it attention, maybe they'll be hard pressed to produce that show. ![]()
