Hey Guys
I deal with Bipolar 1 depression & I do go to 12-step meetings as there was a huge problem with alcoholism & drug addiction within my stepfather's family. I feel that I'm literally punishing others due to alcohol being at family parties & I walk out because of the possibility that I'm witnessing the same thing in other family members in the Phoenix area. I've been in 2 different groups for 17 & 16 years concurrently & another for 2 1/2 which have helped but am I carrying this too far ? I am greatful for my groups but fear I'm punishing other family members because of wanting nothing to do with alcohol.

I can understand your concern, but you may be coming on a little too strong. Other people have to make their own choices. Choosing to leave parties where alcohol is served only deprives you of others company. If there behavior is not enjoyable because of their drinking then by all means leave. No one should have to put up with drunks, however if they are not getting "drunk" and acting like fools then maybe you could stay and just ignore their drinking.
