I was at the unemployment office today and was recognized by an old DHS caseworker of mine. I think it's great when a caseworker wants to abuse the system in my favor, but not at the expense of having to put up with personal questions and go out on lunch"dates" or be asked out for dinner. Needless to say, I wasn't too enthused to see him. It has been a long time, so I gave him one chance. He took me for lunch where we discussed my current situation. He seemed up to his old tricks still, so every time he asked me for permission to reopen my case, I denied it and said that I would like to do this on my own right now. It is really tempting to take him up on this. The State I live in could potentially end up paying for who know's what for me if I'd give in. Since he does work for the State, he can easily look me up on the computer and get all my information to find me--current phone, address, etc. He said today that he looked me up on the computer a while back, knew where I was working, all the info for there, and such. It was hard in the past to tell him "no thanks" but today I did it. Glad I did, too. Let's see if he stays away now. Somehow, I doubt it. I have a good hunch that he'll try to look me up to "check in". Oh well, I'll just tell him the same thing again.

Good for you, inkblot! Favors with strings attached usually do more harm than good. You should be very proud of yourself. I did it! Thanks, but no thanks!

*hugs*

Good for you! I'm proud of you too.
Not only are attached strings bad, what you are describing is an egregious breach of ethics on his part. That is if I am understanding correctly.

Which brought us hither.
