What is your diet like? What kind of foods do you eat? So when I want to diet and loose weight I eat fruits. Try drinking non-carbonated drinks. I love powerade, gatorade, crystal light packets (yummy!), propel, vitamin water. Also, yogurts are good too. Also, you can try talking to your doctor maybe they can have some suggestions on what would work well with your meds. Good luck!

My weight gain of 18 lbs was due to meds too It is a real struggle to lose such weight gain... but it can be done.
I think the meds change our chemical makeup and how the body processes food??? Keep a food journal, so you are absolutely sure you aren't eating more than you used to ..or should. Then it's back to basics... eat healthier, drink lots more water, and try to maintain your activity, if not increase it. (I know everyone says there's nothing they can do about weight gain for cortisone... but I worked on that one, and found that you can keep from gaining on it... it causes you to be hungrier and you do eat more while on such a med...) Good wishes on this!!! I know how depressing it is to gain weight while doing the right thing (taking a med for self care.) __________________ |

Well I'm worse off than all of you--I gained 50 lbs. on my meds. I found out I now have elevated blood pressure & insulin resistance due to the weight gain.
I was put on the 1500 cal,.diabetic diet, but my meds provider said Abilify can cause you not to know when you've had enough when eating. When I eat, I EAT! It's easier for me to not to eat, then to try to stop it once I get started. There is a mixup with the satiety response. It doesn't seem to be there (I'm on Abilify & Lamicatl--don't know which caused it, but I have friend in my support group ho have gainjd on Abilify. Good luck from hefty Suzy |
