Hello,
I haven't been officially diagnosed with anything, but GAD. I have, however, been experiencing the phenomenon of the "flip-flopping" mind where my thoughts change suddenly and pull me in directions that might be quite opposite sometimes. Something that I was against and didn't want to do before, now I'm fully going for it, etc. And it's a constant thing that never seems to stop. Because of this, I find it the easiest to be with someone like a friend or family and let them decide what to do because I feel I can no longer trust myself with the decisions. This issue has also stopped me from accomplishing and achieving things because they seem like something I want now, but two days later, it will not and will no longer want it. I think the bigger issue here is that I feel like I don't have an identity of my own any more. I don't know what's right or wrong for me or what my values are, hence I can explain any direction and behavior. Any advice on what this could be? And more importantly, how to get it under control. Thanks, -stuck |

maybe working with a counselor on the identity issue would help you become more motivated. not knowing who you are or what you want could be preventing you from following through on things or making decisions because if they hold no importance or not making an impact on you then there is no desire to see it through.

I recall my mother telling me, many years ago, when I was born my horoscope said I'd have so many interests in so many different directions if I wasn't guided by a strong hand I'd spend my life jumping from one thing to another & never accomplish anything. I don't really believe in astrology. But this horoscope was spot on. However I wasn't guided by that strong hand & my horoscope was correct. I've never accomplished anything!
I have the same problem you describe. I don't know where it comes from, or what causes it. And unfortunately I also don't know what to do about it. Perhaps it has some connection with anxiety, which I also have always had allot of. If so, then such things as meditation, physical exercise & the other sorts of things that help reduce anxiety may also be helpful in reducing your "bran bounce"... |

I think we all have voices in our heads that take both sides of an issue, chatter to us constantly.

I call them my racing thoughts or mind chatter. The only thing I have tried that works is to try to stay in the present moment and stop the thoughts as they come up by telling myself to "stop" and begin my mind back to the present. It works pretty well with practice. Deep breathing exercises help too. I know it's not easy to put up with them and they can be affected by meds which can either make them better or worse. I don't know which specific ones help but I know mine were worse before I started taking Fetzima and Saphris.

i don't think that having several different interests is a bad thing and you'll never have accomplishments. i had several jobs as a young person, before i got sick, and i just enjoyed them. i learned alot, went to college, but couldnt finish my last semester because of an accident. even the accident gave me that experience. if you do find something you love and have a passion for i say go for it.
