I took a turn for the worse a few weeks ago. I'm on medication for anxiety, doesn't seem to be doing much except making my anxiety worse and bringing back my depression.
So I've been in my house for the last 2 weeks, not left at all. But I'm content, I'm almost 'happy'. Music is helping me. I don't think I've gone longer than 2 hours without having music playing in my earphones. I don't know what it is about it, maybe it's because the music drowns out my thoughts. Even before my depression escalated to the point of not leaving my house, I wouldn't leave the house without music playing. So I guess music is my safety net, music is what keeps me going and especially music with lyrics that I can interpretate and relate to. Anyone else found that music helps you cope with whatever you've got going on? |

Sorry you are having trouble with anxiety. If the meds are not keeping you in balance talk to the prescribing doctor. No need to keep suffering - a change is called for.
Music helps me a lot to relax. The more relaxing the better.

I do find music helpful a lot of the time, though I prefer not to use headphones unless its more practical like if I am taking the bus somewhere, and want to hear that rather than chatting and other noise and of course it can be seen as rude to loudly listen to music in the vicinity of lots of people.
Of course sometimes if I am walking somewhere with kind of heavy traffic, without much side-walk or feel like an area is otherwise unsafe then I find it distracting when I feel better being focused on surroundings...but for familiar routes it helps pass the time it takes to walk and can make me less anxious since it gives me something I enjoy to think about. Listening to music can also help if I feel depressed, it helps if I can relate to the music...whether the lyrics or just how it sounds, I don't really like up-beat music for that I either prefer more mellow music and some types of metal, though other types are better for other moods. Unfortunately there are also times I can't even bring myself to listen to music...that really sucks but that doesn't happen too often.

If I'm in the house, I'm listening to music. I have a huge music collection that accommodates just about any mood I might have. I also play my harp when I really need to distract myself.
