I've been thinking, since I was prescribed ativan I've been using coping skills less, and more often I pop an Ativan than "distract, relax, cope," (coping skills) etc.... I'll take a small dose once every two weeks, or sometimes once a month, or once every 2-3 months. Lately it's been regularly once every two weeks with my job being more demanding than I can take.
I pride myself on being an expert in how to cope. Before I had access to Ativan I would employ every strategy to deal with painful symptoms: distraction, soothing, breathing, excercise, acceptance, art, pleasurable activities, socializing, etc.. Now I find myself too lazy to take these steps. it's more convenient just to take a pill. Does anyone else relate to this dillemma? If so do you share the same feelings? I'm concerned with the addictive nature of benzos yes, but i think i'd prefer to use coping skills because it's ME using MY knowledge to help myself. I want to sharpen up the variety of coping skills and use them more often. It's been on my mind lately.

I do find it easy and quicker to take a pill rather than use my coping skills. And sometimes my anxiety is above the level that it can be brought down by the skills. I agree with you that it is just easier to take the pill.

Ativan is highly addictive, and the longer you take them, the
harder it will be to come off them. Unless,of course,you intend to stay on them for life . . . . . . . . . .? |

Dealing with motivation is difficult. At least for me. It seems like you have the tools, it's just a matter of using them.
