So this morning (around 4 o clock) I woke up to soft sobs coming from outside, as well as the sound of a running car. I heard soft running outside (sounded like someone was wearing flip flops) and a dog barking. The first thing that hit my mind was that someone had broken into the house next to use and kidnapped a girl. I was afraid my house (Parents were on vacation for a week) was next. My girlfriend was with me, and I was concerned with her safety (I'm 18 and she is 19) I woke her up, and told her someone was outside. she was really harsh on me and was really grumpy. I told her to get her phone ready to call 911. I got a kitchen knife out and was creeped out because the car was still their. I also grabbed my electric guitar, just in case. My girlfriend was putting me down, and being harsh...and wasn't really taking it seriously, but then she did and told me she was freaked out (like it was my fault) She went back to bed and now I feel really shunned by her..I was just trying to protect her..because I love her with all my heart and I don't want anything to happen to her..I just..feel like a psycho..I feel like crying..I feel like a freak.

I am so sorry you had a panic reaction and your girlfriend is upset with you. Maybe she is not in a ggod mood when she gets woken up. Maybe you overreacted. That is something anyone can do. That does not mean anything bad about you. Let's look at what happened.

So you heard crying and a car running. That is objective. Nothing wrong with that.

What you thought is there was a kidnapping going on and you were in danger. This seems like a fear reaction where you interpreted these events as a threat without knowing if they really were.

So it may have been your reaction that freaked out your gf. And a good night's sleep will usually help her get into a good place.

Have you ever thought of talking to a therapist about such incidents?

Thanks for the comfort. I mean, my Dad has extreme anxiety. So does my grandma, and so does did my grandma's mom. Actually my grandma is taking an anxiety med called "Paxel" Don't know if you've heard of it. But Yeah, everything's better now. I feel really guilty for some reason. I didn't mean to wake her up, I just wanted her to be aware. But I haven't talked to a therapist before.
