Most of you don't know that I've had a real problem with the neighbors whose yard meets some of mine in the back of the property. They didn't bother with rules at all... and that included not leaving their dog out 24/7. When she barked, they had her debarked...so they could leave her out...cold, rain etc. It became a real problem when I got my puppy this year... and they began digging to each other under the fence... also I found out the day they moved, that the little girl had been feeding my puppy ...snacks? that made him sick.
![]() This is the neighbor who threw chicken bones over the fence after each WILD LOUD party that kept the entire neighborhood awake... and after the police would quiet them, and told them to quit with the bones, they threw eggs. Even if you believe it's ok for animals to eat other animals, I never give my dog real bones, and egg shells? and the mess? ugh. I'm glad they are gone. Now hope the new neighbor fits in better....

Yay!! They are gone, and I'm happy to hear that. I am so against debarking, my professor said when she was in her practice, she told clients she doesn't do that sort of surgery, it's cruel taking an ability to communicate away, as I so believe too.
I hope you get nice, new neighbors, nothing is worse than living near people that have no respect for others. I am wishing you lots of luck!!!! ![]() Take care, DE

It's always a crap-shoot when new neighbours move into the neighbourhood or close to your home.
My neighbours have 2 little ankle-biters that bark non-stop when we are in our yard. It drives me absolutely crazy! We have been very patient with our neighbours about this, but they either don't seem to care, or they cannot hear the dogs when they are in their house (which I cannot believe, since all the homes around us can hear their dogs, too). This summer, I will have to take measures to stop this. I've been thinking about shock collars, but aren't these generally used for large dogs (oh, hell, at this point, I don't care - I'll have them fitted!!) These dogs are so out of control with their barking that it is this, or not allowing the pets out at all (they have a doggie door and unlimited access to outside). I wouldn't mind if they barked when they saw me/us initially, but it goes on and on and on. One day, I was out all day gardening, and one of the dogs actually lost its voice from barking too much. I have tried getting to know the dogs, taking them for walks (they just stand there with their leashes on and bark at me...), putting them in our yard when we are outside... I am out of ideas and out of patience, and my current plan (turning up the tunes to block out their noise, is creating other problems - not everyone likes my taste in music - R&R FOREVER!!!!) The couple are really nice people - have been neighbours for quite a while now - but I don't understand why they will not do something about this. I hate it when a situation gets to this stage, because you know, egos are going to be bent out of shape and everyone will begin to take defensive positions. This does not make for a happy neighbourhood. And I hate the fact that I am the one that keeps having to take the initiative here (I guess I have to because they are directly beside us). It always puts me in the "trouble-maker" category. (Oh, sorry Sky, just hijacked your site to rant about my own probs...). Anyway, I'm glad one problem is solved. Let's hope another one doesn't move right back in! AS

Oh, I just don't feed mine bones. Some ppl are vegetarians and animal lovers, but still feed their animals fish and chicken and bones... and even though I care about animals, my dog gets meat products just not bones! It is for their safety...

![]() Some people just don't give a rat's tail about others. That's when you need to hold your boundaries... if you can. Or get help from those that are supposed "to serve and protect." LOL Here in Ventura County, we have a sheriff that does community work with neighbors to try and bring a peaceful end to harrassment like that. Hope you don't need to resort to anything like that this time!

Hi Sky,
I hope you get better neighbors. Anyone who gives dogs cooked chicken bones are evil-the bones tear up their intestinal lining and make the dog really sick. Although, I'm sure eggshells are okay for them. I'm guilty of throwing eggs at a non-stop barking dog in one of the back yards in our alley way. I didn't want to hurt the dog but I couldn't put up with it's barking all night either. Here in South Philly, the cops won't respond to complaints about dogs barking, even when it's 3 AM so you're left to your own devices. I choose egging the backyard and the mutt who barked for 12 hours straight. It didn't hurt him but it kept him so busy licking the egg off himself that he stopped barking for awhile. The owners of the dog must of had some mess to clean up because he has not been left out all night again since. I know this sounds mean but when you're desperate for a dog to stop barking it's head off for hours on end-you want to be kind but you also want to get your point across. I hope you can train your puppy in your back yard now. |
