Hmmm maybe not quite the right term ... and I know there have been a lot of thread topics on 'mood music'.

But in the interests of sharing idiosyncrasies ... here are mine:

1) Listening to the track Present Tense by Pearl Jam ... makes me snap out of bad thinking ... in a way pretty much nothing else does.

2) Listening to the entire Tool catelogue back to back (a good couple of days work - lol - but the progression of the band is from up and angry (Opiate EP - 1991ish) to Lateralus ... which has much much more light to it ... It takes you on a journey listening to it ... (btw I am not weird for this I have friends IRL who do exactly the same!)

3) Today's mood lifter is TRANCE. I am listening to a new mix by a DJ friend of mine ... it is lifting my mood just bopping round to it Music as 'Therapy' ...

*breaks out the glowsticks*

SO - how do YOU use music ... ?

Play it yourself?
Listen to tracks / albums with specific purposes in mind?

I realise there is an angry song thread somewhere but - this is more general I guess ...

Please share!

i use music for everything. different types for different moods or different work or sleep.......blues for healing, no vocals for sleeping, bluegrass for fun, classical for chilling and long drives, rock and roll for speeding (on the highway)....alternative for deep decision making....(nirvana, etc.)

I use music a lot in therapy. Music transcends words, and is very archetypal. Of course I am a musician so I would think that.......fav music movie aside from Rock and Roll highschool is "Eddie and the Cruisers".
