I need some advice. Don't really know what's wrong with me. Off and on for the past few months I have been spacing out. It's happening more and more frequently. When I space out I am completely unaware of what's going on. I just zone out. My husband or daughter will be talking to me or calling my name and I have no idea. After this happens I feel off for the rest of the day. I can't focus, and even simple tasks seem foreign to me. I have also been getting migraines a lot more frequently, really light headed, and my hands have been shaking. Any idea what this could be? Should I consult a doctor?
If anyone needs further details just ask. |

you mention you get migraines. this spacing off, shaky hands, light headedness can be a symptom of having migraines. i know many people who have the same symptoms. light headedness and shakyness also points toward physical health problems in my location. a rule of thumb around my location for whether a person should seek a treatment providers help is...if it concerns you then its worth seeing a treatment provider. Another rule of thumb around my location since the new law that all americans must have health insurance is go according to what your insurance plan says to do for such things as headaches\migraines, spacing off and light headed ness. most insurance plans state these symptoms fall under ...get immediate help of a treatment provider. |

Yes, call your doctor. You need a physical exam.

Good!! Doctors make me nervous too. Sometimes I'll make a list of symptoms/concerns, questions I want to ask. That way I don't forget anything.

Seems like a head scan would be in order. Rule out some potentially life threatening growth...
I used to get migraine very bad years back. Caused me to throw up, shake, and get very disoriented. The only thing that helped me were strong opiate meds and ergotamine. Opiates are extremely habit forming and ergotamine has very unpleasant side effects. I never figured out what the migraine were from. Possibly I was being exposed to something in a previous residence but no proof. |

Doc said tension headaches. Prescribed a med that my insurance doesn't cover and is over $1000. Currently waiting on them to figure out another med. Suppose to evaluate my daily life and when headaches come on and find my stressor. I've figured out it's life. A mouthy 7 yo daughter who doesn't listen and a husband who can be seriously moody. Those two along with a 1yo to take care of. My stressor is being an adult. Don't think there's a cure for that.

Just realized I never updated. Prescribed topamax and have been on it for a month. Issues are manageable now. Slight lightheadedness every once in a while but nothing serious. The migraines are gone and no more spacing out. Still have some anxiety issues that need addressed but for the most part things are much better.

If you are having "space-outs" and the doctor prescribed Topamax, you really should be evaluated for seizures. At minimum you should get an EEG and see a neurologist. if you are having seizures, or if it is a possibility, I would STRONGLY suggest seeing an epileptologist. I would suggest this even if your "space outs" are gone.
