Do you believe in the power of positive thinking?

I've had an awful lot of bad luck and awful things happen to me recently and I tend to think very negatively. If I think negatively then anything good that happens is a bonus! (Not that it ever does...)

There is an awful lot of positive type posts on facebook that I follow and cringe at whenever I come across them.

So, what are your thoughts on this? Does positive thinking lead to positive things happening or is it a load of bull?

Pegs, I don't know that positive thinking draws positive things to us, but I found by trying to see the positive in things/events life is more pleasant. Does that make sense?

I firmly believe thinking and being more positive makes us feel better, but it is so hard to do. I find thinking negatively is what gets me down every time. I am trying my best to see the positive in every day life, but sometimes I just can't. Then I remind myself there are people that have it a lot worse than me and try to look at it that way. So very hard when you have a mental illness to get and remain positive.

Thinking negatively is much easier in short term circumstances but overall if you think positively you'll end up happier because you'll see the good in things and the opportunities to get you where you want to be. Negativity just holds you back and generally makes you a grumpier person whereas with positivity you're more inclined to actually getting farther and making yourself happy rather than expecting things to happen for you when you aren't putting your best foot forward. That being said, I'm not knocking negative people (I for one have actually used that same line of saying this way of thinking makes good things that happen pretty much a bonus) but I've noticed in others and in myself that when you're thinking positively you can make yourself pretty happy. Of course being positive isn't the easiest, especially when you have a tendency to doubt things and always see the bad before the good, but it's worthwhile.

Perhaps it's about hope. If you get your hopes up, then there is a chance you will be let down by life. As for positive thinking, I would say that positive thinking doesn't equal positive outcomes. Or what I mean is, positive thinking doesn't always return a positive result but positive thinking can give you a big boost in trying to obtain a positive result. Sports comes to mind but the same can apply to other things in life and to life in general.

If don't have any positivity within you, then its going to be harder to achieve things or obtain goals. Positivity gives you that extra bounce and lift.
