Now screaming doesn't help,it just aggravates the intruder, and escalates his,or her RAGE! The best thing to do ,is have a weapon in every room of the house that you can get to in a hurry, just hope the intruder doesn't get to it first! Make sure you have learned as much self-defence classes,or ways to protect yourself in hand to hand combat as you can! Last but not least, don't run, just pray for your lives! It's always good to have a place in your house where you can hide, just to throw them off into thinking you're not home.Or if only to hide your children to at least protect them if things go wrong.Just always be prepared, because you never know when it could happen to you.

Maybe you should know the reason I posted this.In 1997 I was living in an apartment building with roomates, they all left for work early, and I was sick in bed, with a tumor in my throat, waiting for surgery to have it removed,so I was very weak.My roomates forgot to lock the door when they left, and a man came in.I heard a noise, and I knew that everyone else was supposed to be gone,so I got up and made my way out to check it out,and was grabbed from behind, then dragged back to my room, and he raped me,and started brutally beating me.I played dead,in hopes he would just stop and leave. It worked,he ran out.The cop's came, and ambulance,I barely made it.But by the time they caught this man,he had raped and killed 6 other women. If I wouldn't have known what to do,by playing dead,I would be! I posted this topic, because I wanted to help others not have to go through what I did.Now maybe you can understand better, and not think I'm just having fun! How to protect yourself from an intruder in your home!!

Thanks for your supportive comments.I've gotten past it,it was back in 1997.I've been through much worse,so it was bad but I made it,and when I got out of the hospital,I went back to California for a week, then flew back for surgery. But was very relieved when the cops told me when he was caught, but it really scared me when I heard what he had done before he was caught. Now I lock my doors even when I'm home, and awake, they stay locked at all times, and I have a weapon in each room.I mean look at Ted Bundy,he came to Utah, because people are so trusting here ,they usually don't lock thier doors, some even leave them unlocked at night. And they get in cars with strangers for rides all the time, that's how Bundy got his victims here in Utah,he just offered women rides, and they took them.He pretended to be a cop,and they just trusted that he was! That's Utah for you! After Bundy, people started locking thier doors, not getting in cars with strangers as much,a lot still do,but it took something that extreme to teach these people not to be so trusting of strangers!

Yes, I have always found the Ted Bundy story to be extremely disturbing. He was very attractive and clever at pretending to be a cop or have an injured arm, needing help from an unsuspecting female. I would naturally give assistance to someone who appears injured and needs help loading something in a car.

Yeah, and in Utah, nobody even thought twice to even check his badge to see if it's real, and why would a cop be driving a VW bug?! But they still got in the vehicle! And why would he be shopping with a broken arm, when he knows he can't carry it? If I'm smart enough to wonder that, other people should be! Utah is full of Naive people,Mormons are taught to love thy neighbors as thy self, and that is what got those women killed! In my opinion!
