My computer has been acting up for a couple of weeks. My engineer friend came over last weekend and did a bunch of stuff and its seemed ok for a couple days and then suddenly it wasn't. It liked to suddenly shut itself off and restart. Sometimes it would restart just fine and other times it wouldn't, so I'd shut it down and wait and then start it up.

Last night it totally freaked, asking me for the boot disk. It wouldn't do anything.

*Luckily* I have a dinosaur of a laptop in case of emergencies. Its slooooow. Runs Win98. But it works. I have it docked to my keyboard and monitor and mouse for easy manuvering.

So.....I'm still here, for the time being. Hopefully the laptop will hold out. Maybe my engineer friend can do CPR on my poor desktop and bring it back to life.

I have to say, I had a panic moment this morning when I hooked up the laptop and realized the modem hooks up with a USB cable and not the Ethernet cable. Luckily, I found the USB cable quickly, phew!!!

Aaaah, technology.....don't realize how much I rely on it until I almost don't have it.

I'll send positive vibes to heal your P.C. I know - the one time mine went down I thought I would go crazy. Didn't realize what a HUGE part of my day being on the computer is.

Oh, I am always utterly terrified at the slightest sign of something going or being wrong with my computer.

Hoping everything gets sorted out for you!

i understand what you saying there, our computer has been playing up over the last few so much so the disk drive went wrong and had to be replaced we thought this was the end but again last week we decided to start removing some files and while doing that this morning the comp needed turning of but wouldnt restart it was telling us there was a file missing and we ended up having to reformat we are lucky we have a friend who helped us last time so i phoned him and got him to talk us through it, so far all up and running again with no problems

good luck getting yours fixed (((((((((((Raynaadi)))))))))))

You have my sympathies -- it just cost me nearly $300 to recover necessary things off a dead hard drive. Demise of my computer And that was a dead hard drive on a 2 year old computer!! :madder still:

They sure don't make 'em like they used to. My first computer in 1995 was a Compaq that still runs!!! GROWL

Yeah...I don't know what I'm gonna get if I ever get a new one. I've only had this one just over a year.

If it makes you feel any better, I once managed to fry every part of a computer once, somehow.

The tech guy was quite amused.
