Hello. I don't know why this hasn't been a social group before, or ever, according to key term names (I looked up awareness, and nothing really came up), so I decided to form my own social group for it.

I am hoping people will come there to post information on about how to get the public more aware of mental health and illnesses in order to make people like us seem more equal. I hope one day that humans will be able to have the same level of respect to mental health as physical. People talk all the time about physical health and how they have allergies, diabetes, etc., but talking about mental health makes you be deemed crazy?... That doesn't seem fair. Anyways, I want people to be able to have an open conversation in public one day about mental health.

I hope this social group will help figure out ways to get the public involved. If you have any ideas for it, PM me . I really hope this success and that I stay motivated to work on it. Hope you'll join or help in some sort of way .

Come check it out here: http://forums.psychcentral.com/group...awareness.html

Sorry if this wasn't allowed to be posted.

Hi Nike. I admire your inspiration to make a voice for those of us who suffer. Yes there is a great stigma to overcome, but it can be done. I am just coming to grips of suffering with depression to go to counseling and therapy. I didn't want the label attached as being mentally ill. Yet depression is not always a person's fault, nor the other maladies we all suffer with. I think this is a great goal, worth pursing. Maybe you can address how we can make the transition from being labeled to being equal? I don't know if that idea helps. Perhaps quoting medical journals and facts to educate the public on? Just my thoughts. Good luck.
Thanks for this!

Thank you. I know it will be a long and hard road, but I would like to play my part in getting people to know about mental health and illnesses to help remove stigma.

I hope your treatment for depression helps you a lot .

Thank you for the lovely suggestions . I wanted to make forums for my social group, but I don't have enough members for that so I must wait for that to happen. I will post some stuff for that though . Thanks for the response .

I hope this new group of yours becomes successful.
I would greatly benefit from the exchange of ideas
on mental health awareness.
I know many others would too.
Thank you for starting it, Nike007.
... ✌...
Thanks for this!

What a good idea and a much needed one. I try to advocate (in our r/l community) in the name of my sons and at times it feels like I am hitting my head repeatedly against a brick wall. We are our own best advocates and if we want a change it will take many of us to take action. United we have hope and courage to speak out and let society know that mental illness should be treated socially no different than physical health. I commend you for starting such a group. *hugs*
Thanks for this!
