I went to bed last night at 10:30 and slept straight through until my daughter crawled in bed with me at 6:00 this morning!. It was awesome!!!It is amazing what a good, full night's sleep will do. It has been ages and the diference it made was unreal! I may have to ask my doc how I can have more nights like that. I woke up happy and full of energy. I cleaned the living room, picked up prescriptions and dropped paperwork off at my daughter's doc's office, made several calls and all before she got home from school. I even had wonderful and vivid dreams. I must have actually gotten some REM sleep. I was sooo greatful!
Tomorrow I get to ride on a bus with a bunch of 3rd graders for 2 hours, one way. It should be interresting! LOL Annie
P.S. How do you guys put little pictures in your posts?

Pictures in your post are easy, but the picture you want to post has to be available somewhere on the web with a URL available as an "address".
  1. Find the picture on that you want to use using your browser.
  2. Get the URL (address) of that picture:
    <ul>
  3. You can do this by right-clicking on the picture with your mouse and choosing "properties" from the menu. (On a Mac, control-click).
  4. In the box that appears, there is a line titled URL (Address)
  5. The address itself will begin with "http://" and end with the name of the file, usually ending in ".gif," ".jpg," or ".png"
  6. Copy the entire URL. You can write it down but it is easier and more accurate to use your mouse to "swipe" over the address and then use Ctrl-C to copy it (or right click over the selection and choose "Copy"). Make sure you have the whole thing, it won't work if you've left behind a character or two at the beginning or end.
[*]In your post put the cursor where you want the picture to appear, and then use the forum's "image" tag to place the URL.
<ul>[*]Type [ image ] (include the brackets but OMIT THE SPACES).[*]Paste or type the URL that you copied above (you can use Ctrl-V to paste or right click and choose "Paste"
type the closing tag: [ /image ], again without the spaces. Also make sure there are no spaces between the tags and the URL itself.
[*]Finish the rest of your message and them post it to the board!
It's good to check your message afterward to be sure the picture displays properly.

Troubleshooting:
<ul>[*]If you see the URL in your message instead of the picture: You probably have spaces in the [ image ] tags or left off either the opening or closing tag. The forum doesn't recognize it as a tag and so posts it as text.[*]If you see a small box with a red "x" instead of the picture: You probably have an error in the URL, either a misspelling, or you left off the beginning or end when you copied it.

It could also be that the server hosting the picture is temporarily down. The browser goes to that address and grabs the picture to display your post, so if the server is down or the picture has been moved or the name changed, the browser can't locate the image and so displays an "x" instead.[*]If you see a message or a web hosting logo instead of the image: That website may not allow links to pictures on their site, and the server is programmed to feed that default image in place of the URL requested.

<hr>

There are a few things that I always mention when I post these instructions. First is that other people's pictures are their property and are protected by copyright by default. Most of the time it is OK to use an image but technically it is illegal to do so without permission from the copyright holder. Many sites do intend their pictures to be used and they may have give blanket permission to do so if you look for "terms and conditions" on their site. Many times they allow you to use their pictures with a condition, such as you post a link back to their website or mention their name when you use their picture. Some request notification as to where their image is used. If no terms are posted on the website, if you want to be polite you can email the website owner and ask for permission to use their image.

The second issue concerns "bandwidth" which is important because if you link to an image, then any time someone opens your post with the image, the browser has to access the server where the image is located. Web services that people use to host their sites have limits on the total amount of data that can be transferred per month. If that limit is exceeded access may be denied or the site owner may be charged an extra fee.

The bandwidth used for one picture in one post is probably insignificant even with the number of forum members that will open and read that post. But with several images posted the bandwidth required will grow.

As I said above, many websites with pictures do give blanket permission to use their pictures but very often one of the conditions is that you DO NOT link to the picture from their website, and the bandwidth limit is the reason. To use one of their pictures, they request that you download the picture from their site (right click and choose "Save Picture As...") and then upload that picture to your own webspace and link to it from there. This requires you to have your own webspace and how to use it, many common online services automatically give you a small amount of webspace as a part of your subscription, so it then is a matter of figuring out how to access it.

Note that if you download the picture, choose "Properties" on that picture on your desktop, and copy the address there (it will usually start with something like "c:\" and use that in your message, it will appear to work, but no one but you will be able to see the image. That is because your computer at home is not a web server... when you open the image in your browser it can read and display the image from your hard drive, but other people can't access your hard drive with their browser so they'll get the red "x" instead.

As an alternative you can download the picture and then post it in a message as an "attachment," when you do that the file for the picture actually gets uploaded to the PsychCentral webspace when you post the message.
