Well, this is embarrassing... It looks like I've fallen in love with a character from a cartoon I started to watch two months ago. Is this normal? I won't say who I fell in love with, all i can say is that it's an animal. Yep, it's not a human, and that makes it more strange. Also, I'm gay and that character is, of course, male. To be honest, his personality is my stereotype of the prefect boy, and I've never had a boyfriend before, so maybe what I feel about him is because of my lack of a partner.

I hope this information is helpful

Hello PizzaBoy: I see this is your first post here on PC. So... welcome to PsychCentral... from the Skeezyks! I hope you find what you came here looking for.

Well... I'd have to say I have never fallen in love with a cartoon character myself. (Actually I'm old enough that I haven't really watched any cartoons in a very, very long time!) But I have often, in the past, become entranced by fantasy settings... fairylands & such. I often found myself wishing I could live in the realms of fairy rather than in the real one. And in conjunction with that I often found myself enamored of characters in pictures of the fairy realms. So I don't know that your falling in love with a cartoon character is so particularly strange. As you mentioned, this character embodies your image of the perfect boy.

I think the important thing here is that you are aware of your emotional response to this cartoon character. Plus you seem to have some perspective with regard to why it is happening. What would be worrisome would be if you believed this character was real & you could somehow go to him & be best friends.

I have many maladaptive daydreams involving anime characters. I'll fall in love with them and make up whole stories before I sleep at night.

It frees my mind from the malady I'm suffering enough that I can rest.

For me, this is an escape I need or else I'll crack under my health and mental state.

So no, I found nothing at all weird or wrong with how you feel.
