Sometimes it seems that I just fail despite all logic. My commitment to failure is stronger than the laws of physics.
For example right now I am trying to ride a bike. I can't ride without getting pain. If the seat is too low I get arm pain. Too high I get back pain. In the middle and I get skin abrasions from my saddle, or I start slipping forward in my saddle, or something else will happen. And that's just this bike. Even if I ever get the right configuration on this bike, I will have to start the whole process all over again if I get a new bike. Or if I get the right configuration, I might lose the configuration if someone moves my saddle height or something. I am starting to think the precise setup I am looking for is in a very narrow range of setting, and it's going to be a matter of millimetres. This is pathetic, I see people riding bikes outside and I am jealous of them because I can't cycle comfortably. And I don't even know why lol. Do you fail beyond all reason? The other day I was trying to save something, and I couldn't do it. THE COMPUTER WOULDN'T SAVE. Then I finally figured out it was saving, but it was saving the file down the bottom of the list of saved files .. . I still don't know why it was doing this. Was it trying to hide the files from me??? Because my files are set up to save in order of most recent. WHY IS MY COMPUTER TRYING TO MAKE THINGS HARDER FOR ME? Anyway, I may never be able to cycle, and it just seems that things are conspiring against me, trying to get in my way. |

This is really depressing me. I have spent money on two bikes now, and I don't care about the money that much, but I think this will have to be the last bike. I can't just keep buying bikes and hoping the next one will work for me.

I'm thinking of giving up on cycling and just swimming instead. Cycling is breaking my body and maybe I should just give up on it for now, and make it a lifelong project to try and figure out why I can't cycle without pain

Hi IT don't let this hold you back from riding! Go to a bike shop they will be willing to give advice about the appropriate seat or something that can help. I also believe like with all exercises you must stretch before and after riding your bike. Today you may ride one mile with determination and effort you will increase your distance and physical ability
My husband said maybe a bigger seat would help, I even saw padded cyclists shorts. You can do it IT, You must build your stamina and endurance. big hugs btw i miss u |

I used to be able to cycle comfortably on a previous bike which was setup with a lowered seat, but it was a bad setup technically the seat should be higher than what i had it as, otherwise it's bad for your knees, and also for speed. I still have that bike in a shed at home, but the only reason it seems that I didn't get pain was that it wasn't set up properly. If I set the bike up normally I seem to get pain. Even now I am feeling pain in my shoulder due to riding earlier today. |

It's not about stamina or endurance. I used to be able to ride for miles and miles on a previous bike, it was just a mountain bike and it was a little too small for me and the seat was lowered too much but that was pain free.
Besides that just a bike I had as a kid. As far as this adult cycling with bikes my size with the proper configurations, I can't figure it out. |

I suppose I could go into the bike shop every day but they are getting sick of me now probably. I could seriously go there every day.

But this is the story of my life really. Finding new and interesting ways to fail at everything.

It may be that cycling is one of those things i can't do. Which is odd because people always say that 'it's like riding a bike' as though its so easy anyone can do it. Ironically i have decided to fail at the one thing that anyone can do.

I have lowered the seat as far as it will go, and this setup feels a lot more comfortable to me. It's a pity that I can't cycle in a truly fast position, but maybe this will work out.

You may be trying to configure the seat like that of your previous bike but the problem could be the location of the pedals in relation to the seat (the angle as determined by the post). Think of the configuration and relationship between the pedals, the seat, the handlebars as a triangle. With a mountain bike or racing bike the distance between the bars and the seat is longer and horizontal with the pedals more vertical beneath the seat. Raising th handlebars actually stretches you further. Conversely a cruiser is ergonomically like a kitchen chair and you can sit comfortably with a straight back, feet forward, and handles up higher.
I guess what I am trying to say is that trying to make a bike act like another will likely result in your ride being uncomfortable. So 1) make sure the type of bike you buy is for the style of riding you want 2) have the bike 'fitted' for you at the time of purchase - and take it back as adjustments are required. |

Do you have one of those bikes with the curly handles that require you to look down at the road instead of forward? Maybe you need a real bike that lets to sit up straight and see everything?

I have a flat handlebar, not the curly handlebar.
Things are a bit better now, I at least know how to configure my bike for comfort, although it's not very fast with the seat down low at least i feel very comfortable in that position. At the moment I am feeling a bit more optimistic. |
