Hi there
Could you explain a little more? Do you mean emotional numbing from medication, or something else?
Hugs

I agree, a bit more context would help us to be able to answer your question.

not from medication just from normal severe depression if that makes sense to you
Thanks for this!

Thank you for adding more context.to your question. Personally for me emotional numbing doesn't have much if any effect on my imagination, creativity yes, imagination not so much. This is from my personal experience. I wish I could be of more help answering your question.

Yes, my creativity seems greatly 'numbed' during depression. This is only exacerbated by medication. I also have 'numbness' when it comes to basic tasks - I can't add as quickly and have difficulty on occasion with words. Owing to Depression? I'm not sure. I think medication is a big factor.
Thanks for this!

arent emotions regulated through the left hemisphere so to speak?which controls the creativity etc, stress produces cortisol and i heard that your limbic system can shrink over time,or was that just the amygdala, that might have something to do with that

That's interesting. I haven't heard that. For me, being depressed numbs everything. Creativity and imagination are joyful things for me and I lose them when depressed. I look inwards in a negative way and get stuck thinking about the same bad things.

Yes, I also get stuck in a rut doing things I don't enjoy. I am desperate for motivation to do happy creative things but completely lack inspiration.

As for numbing my mind of basic tasks - like even holding a conversation without being word dumb and looking like an idiot - I have been helping this with stimulating tasks like puzzles and math worksheets downloaded from education sites.

Depression, since it occurs in the brain can affect all of your systems. Creativity and imagination are among the first to be affected. Be sure to tell your Doc if it is a problem for you.

I have bipolar, I write my best lines (I am working on a novel ) when I am depressed. When I am manic and happy I am busy playing with my cats. I am more into physical activities when I am manic, tried to write many times but nothing comes to mind. Bring me depression, imagination flows just like that, I can write all day and night..
