Hello, I'm in 12th class and I can freely communicate with my parents talk non sense, rudely, without any barriers and limits, but I can't do that with my class mates and I'm feeling like locked in box and get extremely anxious at those times, when I become in the centre of attention, I suspect sometimes I even forget to breath. Shouldn't it be easy to communicate with classmates and harder with parents? How can I swap?

Unfortunately, as much as we want it to be this way it often doesn't happen. Perhaps it is you are feeling safer with your parents than your peers. Is it likely you don't share common interests or experiences with them?
Here's a few suggestions. Observe your peers. What do they talk about? What are their interests? What manner is their non verbal communication towards one another? I'm not saying change yourself and your own interests. I'm saying that if you make an effort to learn about theirs you will have something to share. That should make it easier to communicate with them. I speak from experience. I had quite a strict upbringing. While my peers sat up after dinner watching the latest popular tv shows I was already in bed. even had I been up I wouldn't have been allowed to watch them anyway. Something as simple as this put me at a disadvantage trying to communicate with and break into the social groups of my peers. If only I had the opportunity to even have a glimpse of some of the things they experienced I am sure I would have had an easier time of it. This is why I stress that you make an effort - if you can - to find something in common with your own classmates, etc. |
