I thought at first it was just because i am suicidal and depressed- and unhappy in life, but now i think about it.. I really do want to swap my body for 1 of a dolphin- it's not just a passing thought like i first imagined
what's wrong, if anything, with wanting to swap your body for a dolphin? (i should add that I don't really like dolphins that much, so it's nothing to do with liking the animal) perhaps it really is just because i'm depressed and want to be something else. |

Hmm! I don't know that there's anything wrong with it, as long as you accept that it's not physically possible today (so if that's really what you want, you're going to be disappointed!).
I do wonder sometimes if, in the future, we'll be able to map and recreate our consciousness, and put it into other shapes/machines. Like, there could be a robotic dolphin that you project your consciousness into - and you'd actually be able to feel what it's like to swim in the ocean as a dolphin, breathe through a blowhole, and leap up into the air from the water. Maybe, someday! Do you know why you want to swap bodies with a dolphin, given you don't like them much? |

I don't think there's anything wrong with it as long as it doesn't interfere with other parts of life.

You get echo-location ! Nuff said
![]() Seriously, why not though.. I've often wished for a swap with a jellyfish. Biologically immortal, and they float around like "bzzzt" omnomnomnom

I would like to be a mermaid. Maybe we will swim by each other.

maybe, but I don't think in our time (science is progressing, but not fast enough!) why do I want to swap boddies with a dolphin... well they lead very simple lives don't they- they live in the water, they eat, they sleep, they sometimes get people to swim with them, they just don't have stressfull lives- and i could totally see myself living in deep water, without a care in the world |

my point At one time I wanted to change places with an animal but then I did my research on what it really would be like to live as an animal.. dolphins may look like they dont have a care in the world and they may be beautiful creatures of the sea world but me I wouldnt want to go through all the stuff they have to just to survive. for me Im glad to be human in this chain of life. I love being able to control how and where I live, what foods I get to eat and who I want touching my body and only procreating when I want to not forced... Reminds of this song, "Dolphin", by Poe..
(I thought that she sang, "I want to be a dolphin" - but apparently, it's actually, "I've got to be a dolphin." ) |

Do you want an honest opinion, or just people agreeing that it's normal?
It's not normal to want to be another life form. We're seeing this sort of thing normalized but it's not normal. We're seeing more and more stories normalize this sort of fetish, but it's fringe at best. Below are a couple of news stories I've come across recently about this phenomena: Man lives as goat: Why I decided to give up my life in London and become a goat in Switzerland | Daily Mail Online 53 year old married man decides he's a 6 year-old girl, finds couple to adopt him: Canadian man leaves family to be transgender six-year-old girl*Stefonknee Wolscht | Daily Mail Online

laura beth,
your post cracked me up. it just did. so honest and to the point (perhaps it's just so easy to make me laugh?) I can see your point amanda, but still it's diffrent.. dolphins don't think suicidal thoughts, they don't cut, they don't have to deal with feelings of being invisible, etc. thanks for the articles lucy. they are interesting of course I want an honest opinion |

There's nothing wrong with wanting...
As long as wanting doesn't become longing and longing doesn't become an obsession. In other words, if you're not firmly grounded in reality, you run the risk of starting down a slippery slope... |

do you have any artickles/ resources that supports that? I didn't think dolphins were inteligent enough to think about killing themselves. I honestly didn't. |

I didnt say they actually think about it, I said ........who knows whether they do or not,.... humans are just learning how to communicate with them they cant tell us. I am making a ....guess ......based on documented behaviors of dolphins. |
