http://www.us-sex-offenders.com/map.aspx

This is the best site I have found for this. You type in your address and it maps all of the offenders within a mile of your house and gives you a picture and info. Other sites I have found are kind of hard to navigate

That's wonderful information! thank you!

It doesn't have Ohio on there yet, so if anyone is from Ohio, here's a registry where you can locate local registered offenders:

http://www.esorn.ag.state.oh.us/Secured/p21_2.aspx

Thank you gem!

They only have 27 states right now, but will continue to add more.

They also have a service that will email you if any new offenders move into your area.

My husband and I are planning on trying for a baby soon so I wanted to be aware of anyone near by. Unfortunatly, I have one up the street from me. It's nice to be aware of it though.

Here's another site:

http://www.missingkids.com/ - The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children lists sites for each state that list sex offenders

KEEP IN MIND that not all sex offenders are listed (those who aren't registered or ever been caught), and just because someone's labeled a sex offender, doesn't mean they did something severe or deserve to be labeled a sex offender.

For instance, recently, on our local news, two boys were facing legal trouble for slapping girls on the butts in school. Some girls were okay with it, some not. One girl stated, "It's like a handshake we do." One of the boys said, "Lots of kids at school do that." I don't know what the latest is on this story, and I definitely think the boys deserve a punishment and a good lesson about sexual harassment, but one of the possible consequences they could face at the time of the story was having to register as sex offenders for the rest of their lives. I just don't see them on the same level as a rapist, whether we're talking about adults or children. What they do in the future may be something else entirely, but for now, I don't think they deserve the "sex offender" label for what they did.

It gives me the creeps too, but it is nice to know about. Whats even more creepy is there is one right across from the elementary school here. I think I'm going to call the school board about it. There shouldn't be one so close to a school. I think its against their probabation here.

We have someone on our street but he doesn't show up. Do you think it depends on what the charges are? Map of US Sex Offenders

I'm not sure. Its a private service so I guess maybe they could have missed him. It is supposed to link up with the state database.

It also says if the state database miss-spells the street name or gives the wrong zipcode it messes up their mapping. Maybe thats what happened?

Its really scary how many of them there are. Map of US Sex Offenders

Yes. It was a big issue when he moved in, the neighbors with children were ready to lynch him. The sherrif's dept comes by all the time to check on him. Our next door neighbor is a detective with the police department and they all wanted him to "do something."

THIS IS WHAT SHOULD BE DONE TO CHILD MOLESTERS
ONLY IT'S NOT QUITE LEGAL..................WHO CARES, IT'S A CURE!!!!!!!!!

Bang their heads against a wall and never stop. I do not consider this a disease. What cure??? There isn't one that I know of..................like there cure for rape??? That'd be
more likely than molesting!!!! Molesting is a CHOICE......
I will never believe it's a mental defect. They are never sorry
just sorry pieces of %#@&#!!!!

If he's in the "system" he would be on the sex offenders map. Depending on WHEN this was committed. Sometime these are older crimes before it became manditory registry for them.

You might see him on that yet...........or a MILK CARTON!!!!!

Could it be that the site map hasn't been updated? He moved here from Michigan but that shouldn't matter. Would the sherrif still come and check on him if he was "released" after ten years or something?

Hey Petunia,
I don't know for sure. If he moved from out of state, he's required to register anywhere he goes. Especially if he's on parole. They have to know where you are at all times.
Specifically if you're a known " child molester" on parole.

It probably hasn't been updated since he was released. That will change soon enough. Til then, all the public can do is make sure their children never walk anywhere alone,
or take candy from these people. It's best just to stay away from them.

I failed to mention that he will have a PAROLE officer assigned to him as well. Depending on how long his original sentence was, and the regulations beset on him for parole. If he breaks ONE rule, he's back in the slammer.
Does it say why or what he did, and how long his original sentence was???? He served 10 years of 10, then I think
they're home free. I'm not sure. I'm going on men who get
paroled before the original sentence is up. You could call your local sheriff and ask them about it. They have to tell you when a former offender is living in your neighborhood.
Particularily if he's a sex offender.
