Hey there fellow PCers!
If you're a member of one of the social networking bookmarking or referer sites like Digg.com, Reddit.com, Stumbleupon.com, or a similar site, please remember Psych Central in your online travels to these sites. Starting today, once a week, we're going to post a sticky to the top of this forum that lets you know the one article we'd like to see made "popular" on one of these sites. We want to be in a better position to compete with the big guys, like WebMD or Revolution, and their millions of users, so I have to work 100x harder to get our stuff seen (even though it's often better than their stuff!). You can help! And all it costs you is 2 minutes of your time per week. Signup as a member to one (or all!) of these three sites: Digg.com StumbleUpon (StumbleUpon requires installation of a free web browser toolbar, so I understand if you forgo that site.) Then, when we post a new article we'd like you to Digg or vote thumbs up, just go to the article and Digg it or vote it up in Reddit. We'll provide you simple links either within the article itself, or how to find it at these sites. But also consider voting for other mental health, health, psychology or other interesting articles you find at these sites too! Don't limit yourself to just voting on Psych Central articles. How it Works The more people who "digg" or vote up an article on one of these sites, the more likely it will become "popular" and get moved to main page of that site's health section or such. Such popularity drives more visitors to find our site, since we don't have hundreds of thousands of dollars to spend on advertising in Google (like the big health sites do!). The more people who find us, the more likely they find help for a mental health concern or look at mental health issues in a different, more positive light. Thanks for your consideration! DocJohn PS - Feel free to ignore this message if you have no interest in doing this sort of thing. No member is under any obligation to do so. PPS - The first article we're highlighting this week is our Psychological College Survival Guide. Click on the article, and you'll see the place to digg it in the second paragraph (no reddit link yet). Thank you!!!

StumbleUpon rocks, and you don't necessarily have to use their toolbar for anything but letting it find sites based on your interests. I have to limit myself, though, because it's a great timewaster!

Uh...
Isn't this encouraging people to circumvent the point of voting for QUALITY articles by encouraging people to vote for POSTERS WHO THEY LIKE??? Kind of like... Making sure the peer-reviewers are your friends so they like your work no matter what the quality of your work is... :-( |

Umm, Digg specifically provides tools for Digg Friends to help one another find each other's posts easily, so no, these websites understand that friends will vote for other friends' stuff and it is in large part how all three of these sites work....

Ah, okay. So much the worse for those kinds of sites IMHO but anyhoo... Good luck with that (really). |
