I've started to notice this a lot recently and I'm unsure exactly how long this has been going on for but I find that I always feel really down and more depressed whenever I am around my parents than when I am not.

I feel a lot better and happier especially when I am on my own or when I'm around other people that I know that aren't family members.

I would say that I have a relatively good relationship with my parents so I'm unsure as to what could be causing me to feel like this.

I can't find anything online that's close to what I'm feeling, so posting it on here is probably a long shot but has anyone else experienced this or know of someone that has or what this means? Anything would be helpful.

Tell me what doesn't cause it about them and perhaps we can track down the reason that way.

What are some things about them that make you feel good?

Perhaps there are some reasons in your subconscious, and you just can't point them out..

Just an idea, but maybe you feel that your parents don't get you?

Or maybe you feel that you've disappointed them in some way?

Would you say the relationship is enriching despite this?

Good for you on noticing a change in your behavior, and for trying to figure out what it means. It could be that when you are with your parents, you are simply falling back into old habits of thinking and feeling. Or it could be that you are feeling sad for a change in your relationship with them that your independence brings. Or it could be that there are painful past issues that come up for you when you are around them. You might consider talking to a therapist to help you work through things.
