My dad has Bipolar Type 1, which is a more severe version of Cyclothymia. Cyclothymia is considered by some as Bipolar light. When my dad gets bad he struggles to sleep and cope with life, either he does not sleep and goes on twitch 24/7 or he stays in his bedroom all day when he gets bad. I am not sure what he takes but he takes medication that is also prescribed for epileptics, it works pretty well for him.

Stephen Fry has Cyclothymia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_Fry
