Ever get really sad or feel extremely nostalgic about something, especially if it is night and you are really tired? I've always wondered how tiredness can result in sad or nostalgic feelings. Anyone know why? Just curious and wondered if anyone else experiences this. This can happen to me at any time of the day, but it is most common at night, and even more so when I'm tired.

Yes, as soon as my brain has no immediate gratification/occupation my thoughts wonder, sad memories surface up and grief... It's common, especially for people with depression.
I have nothing to be nostalgic about so... no nostalgia. |

Well, I think of it as some form for lack in energy to keep the sad memories out of sight. As long as you fight to do what you have to do to manage your day, your inner keepers keep these memories in the closet. When you become tired, however, your inner keepers are too tired to hold the door to the closet for bad memories closed. The way I see this, that is why your memories comes out in the "free".
Go with these memories if you feel it is good for you. If not, you can learn to focus on something else related to relaxation exercises. Good luck! ![]() |

I have this issue sometimes as well. I think that it has to do with the fact that you have to calm your mind down to sleep.
I cope with depression by keeping my mind busy throughout the day and avoiding things that might trigger depression for me whenever possible. Because I can't keep my mind busy when trying to go to sleep, it isn't that uncommon for me to feel like crying. I guess this might explain my sleep issues. I just hope that you find a solution because I'm still looking for one. |
