Hello, my name is Sydney.

So, I've dealt with several cases of memory lapses like everyone else would my entire life. These past few months I feel I have had more odd memory problems. For example, sometimes I'll remember that I have to do something and I will go to do the task, only to figure out I've already done it. I won't remember doing it, but there's proof that I did. Or one day I was rummaging through my purse to find bright pink fluorescent guaze wrap placed inside. I have no recollection of putting it there, but it was there. There is no one in my house that would put something like that in my purse. Often times I'll look through my Youtube history and find videos I don't remember watching in my recents. Every once and a while I'll find stuff/ messages I don't remember writing or sending.

Is this normal, or is this something to be concerned about.

Thank you for reading

I too struggle with my memory and just recently asked this question to others. I will ask questions repeatedly without even noticing. My boys will say "mom you've asked us that question 5 times already." I forget where I place things. It is quite frustrating for my family. I am just coming out of psychosis and have started treatment. Some say this is why my memory could be affected. Thinking of you!

Im sorry I cant tell you if this is normal or something to be concerned about with in you. only your own or an off line treatment provider in your own location can tell you that...

what i can tell you is that with some people that I know it is normal for others its an age related problem or any number of mental or physical health problems... with in me the problem is called MS (multiple Sclerosis a physical health problem not mental) and a medication side effect.

my suggestion if this continues to bother you contact a treatment provider in your off the computer locations.
Thanks for this!

I think that level of memory loss would slightly concern me. Can you see your doctor to get this checked out? He may refer you to a psychiatrist or a neurologist or may just say it's nothing. I encourage you to get it checked out. Best wishes.
Thanks for this!

(I thought I replied to this already. This is just such a case of the question at hand.

This happens too. My own feelings are that it is owing to medication. I had ECT too exactly two years ago an I've wondered the memory problems are on account of that. So too, could the fact I am in that time of life be the issue?

I don't just forget ideas, things, and stuff that I have done or has happened. My memory trouble even comes up during conversation or while I am writing things down. I will suddenly be unable to think of a word mid-sentence or say the wrong word entirely (like prospect instead of expect, accept, except, etc).
Thanks for this!

Hi, Tastenrainbows, and welcome to Psych Central! To me it sounds beyond normal. I have measured memory loss due to age-related conditions and probably medication. I suggest you tell your doctor and get checked out to make sure you're okay. Maybe something can help. Again, welcome--and make yourself at home here. It's a great place. :hug
Thanks for this!

You're posting about it...

So are you posting about it because you're curious?
Or because you're worried it may be serious?

If you're curious, that's one thing.
But if you're worried, definitely talk to a doctor or a therapist or someone. They may be able to help.

I have the same problem. It's maddening at times. I chalk it up to age and meds.

In that case, I would see a doctor if I were you. No one here is qualified to answer your question as to whether or not it is normal for you.

I would have a physical and bloodwork done to rule that out.

This can happen due to several reasons from medicine to other treatments. I too was having some memory problems, but not this serious. In my case I guess it was due to starting Ambien, Xanax and Lexapro all over again after a couple of years.

This time, systemic side-effects were much less while things like short-term memory loss were more pronounced.

But now I don't even remember what I have forgot, and other times I have ways to traverse back and find pieces of information I would forget.

> I think you should definitely tell this to your doctor, and also maybe get a physical checkup. Could also be some mineral deficiency or something.
