Hello all, I hope you're well

I've just woken up in the evening, having gone to bed earlier this morning. I had my laptop on my bed I'd been using before falling asleep which is totally normal for me. I'm awake now and I see that it's been moved and although I know this could be coming from a caring place on behalf of whomever touched it, like "oh goodness, I should probably move his laptop in case it falls off the bed and break" I'm concerned they may have had a look at my history.

The thing is, it was against the wall my bed is pushed against and it's a double so it can't fall off if that makes any sense. My body is on the outside of the bed whilst the laptop is on the inside.

There's stuff about me being gay on it which I'm not open about with my family and I haven't got anything crazy worth hiding but there is stuff about things some people generally feel uncomfortable sharing with family, like anything sex related, lol.

It could be my paranoia and they just simply moved my laptop from my bed to another location just in case it did fall... but I feel so embarrassed, TOO embarrassed to go downstairs or anywhere else in the house, as I'd gone to sleep leaving a page about homosexuality open for anyone who'd open the laptop to see.

I don't know how to handle this, I know it's silly but I see my therapist in 2 weeks time and it's just ughhhh.

It's not silly, I understand your worries. Try to act normally and see how the others react.

I understand your concern. If you are comfortable with it, ask if someone came into your room and moved your laptop. Their reaction may assuage your fears. Just in case, can you put a password on your computer and log off each night?

Wonderful that you both understand, very refreshing for me. I'll go downstairs and act normal, haha if they went on it, they went on it. Hopefully they don't feel the need to bring it up but if they do, I'm sure I'll handle it! Thanks again!

Maybe the laptop went to 'sleep' and then it gives a black screen right so then people wouldn't have seen what you were looking at. I can understand you coming to the worst conclusion initially. Sounds like it was moved out of caring for you unless there is someone in the household that hacks computers? Run your antivirus and check your history. Breathe.

It's all good, thank goodness No one saw anything, I don't have to talk about anything - it must have just been moved from location A to location B as initially thought. It's all good. Just a moment of irrational panic, haha! Went down stairs and had my dinner and socialised with everyone as usual.

Eclairparty98: Glad your privacy was not breached. Happy its all good. Your username reminds me of my Aunt Claire. My sister and my nick for her was Aunt E. Claire.

If someone had been snooping, they would probably try to hide it by putting it back where it was.

Definitely put a password on and set it to lock after 15 min of non-use

Several agreements I have with above posts. For one, your computer would have timed out (I assume you need a password to log in) and two, anyone snooping would have been careful enough to replace it as they found it. I also like the suggestion of just acting normally.
