This is a vent, so forgive me.

I was recently in the psych hospital, twice, for 4 weeks total. Because it was the anniversary of when I lost my baby. But of course, I couldn't just go to the hospital, come home and resume normal life. The second time I was in there, someone took my card (which was locked up at the hospital), went to an ATM a few blocks away and emptied my bank account. Someone presumably with a job. At the hospital. They felt the need to rob someone on SSI because why? Because that person is a monster. A **** monster. The "good" news is the bank (which is in a different state) agreed to send me the paperwork to file a claim in the mail (but I'm going to call them tomorrow and see if they can fax it) and ONCE THEY RECEIVE IT BACK, WHICH COULD TAKE UP TO 2 WEEKS, DOING IT THEIR WAY THAT IS, they will replace my money.

Meanwhile, I contacted the police. They said they would call me back. They never did. I called and left them a message, and they still never called me back. I guess they don't consider being robbed a big deal if you're on SSI. And I have no money. 0. none. zilch. So no phone. And to make matters worse, the house phone at the halfway house is broken too. So I have no way of calling anyone either, unless I use my housing manager's phone when she's at work.

Then, when I thought it couldn't get any worse, the ssa sends me another document in the mail I have to send in for my review. So that anxiety is not getting any better either.

Oh wow. My lower jaw fell to the floor as I read this ... How despicable some people can be. I understand how you feel.

Reading this only makes me not want to trust anyone, especially since those around you hurt you the most.

I hope you find out who robbed you. I also hope everything works out for you.

I'm very sorry you've gone through this. I can sympathize. I was once pickpocketed of my newly cashed SSI check. I was helping the lady out, supposedly with gas money for a car I never saw, and she helped herself to the rest of what I had too.

People who are active in their addictions will go to any length to fund their substance use. They don't care who they hurt. I'll bet almost anything, that's what happened.

I hope everything works out for you, and very soon.

I got swindeled out of a ssd check when this business like man came to my house and told me i owed ssd 500 dollars, my whole check. I believed him as he looked so professional so i gave it to him. Im so stupid for this but i learned my lesson when it comes to my ssd.

Well, I just saw that the money was put back in my account presumably by the bank but I have to wait for the new card to get here. I still absolutely want to find out who did it because I bet they're doing the same thing to others or they will. From now on, my card will NEVER be left in the hands of anyone else. If I ever have to go back to the hospital I'll make sure to leave it at home.

I’m so sorry this happened to you. Like you needed this on top of what you were already dealing with. I’m glad the bank has the money back in your account now. Is the hospital investigating? What happened to you is disgraceful.

So glad you got your cash back from your bank. Of course that doesn't make out for the horrible, completely unfair fact you were robbed of your SSI check. That robber and the police were disgusting. Both lowest of the low. There should be a special place in H'll for that thief. Hope your new SSI card comes back soon.

I have no idea. Some people can hack into that I guess.

I just now got my phone turned back on so I'm going to call the hospital tomorrow.

Yup somebody at the hospital needs to know and preferably some-one who is on a more senior level. It is disgusting what happened. Glad that the money was refunded by the bank.

If there is one thing I cannot stand..it is a thief. I hope this person falls into a vat of acid. No sympathy.

I think the hospital should have some liability for this. If the withdrawal(s) occurred while you were an inpatient, and the card in their safe is the only ATM card for the account, then that pretty much proves that a hospital staffer stole from you. The hospital should thoroughly investigate this. I have heard of this happening. It is a disgrace.

Reading through, I am glad you got your money back.

But, I surely hope they find the person that did this so it doesn't happen to anyone else, because that's horrible.

That money is given to you because you can't work or do anything else to make that money so someone who can work and do whatever to take it from you really makes me angry.

I am glad, you got the bank to refund it though and got your phone turned back on, but please do update us on what the hospital says about it, etc.
