the old nature versus nurture debate. I suppose one could be wired such way from the start but I believe a big part of aggression and violence is learned. If a child is immersed in dominating aggressive behaviour it is my understanding the chances are increased for them to do so too.
Take for example domestic abuse, harassment, and a lack of anger management. Such behaviour becomes normalized when repeatedly exposed to it. A failure to have this behaviour addressed and curtailed often only strengthens such a mindset. One behaves as they have known - a bully is such an example. |

Well I akways thought it was both nature and nurture. I don't know why people have to choose sides with it.

I suspect it's a combination of nature, nurture and prolonged or intense stressors.

The eternal conflict of competition and collaboration, is what causes conflict.
Competition is for one, collaboration is for everyone. If one can compete to be better than others, it seems they'd do it. The problem with such competition is the winner requires allot of resources, more than we really need. The world will eventually run out of resources. I have no idea about how much hope Mars could give, but besides Mars we currently have no other place. |

This is my subjective view based on my own experience:
![]() ![]() Some sad people I've met harm themselves to feel better, while some angry people harm others to feel better. To me, violence is not limited to physical violence. I strongly believe in verbal violence (like insulting someone else) and disguised violence (like vicious gossip). All in all, it just means someone is unhappy with themselves and tears other people down in order to raise their self-esteem. |

Well everything everyone said seems pretty accurate to me. I just like thinking about what causes people to do what they do so we can understand them better.
